Tyre Tax

I live in South London, outside the North Circular Road, so not in the new ULEZ, but changed my diesel car for a petrol. I get less MPG but don't need to worry about going inside the zone when visiting my mum in North London. My brother is a self-employed plumber and tiler. He also lives in North London, also outside the zone (200 yards outside the NCR) but his work takes him all over London. He used a diesel Ford Transit Connect but recently went all the way to Darlington to buy a petrol Skoda Superb estate because he was paying too much in ULEZ charges.
I should have been more clear, but the ULEZ is expanding to cover the whole of Greater London including heathrow and right up to the Home Counties‘ borders.

Estates are certainly an option, but I don’t think I’d manage to get my cement mixer in the back of one lol

How dare we stop killing children

I’ve always maintained I’m not against the ULEZ, but this year’s expansion is going to hit many people hard and with very little in the way of help. (£2k scrappage from August 2023 is meagre).

If they’re really that committed to this then they should outlaw old and filthy black cabs, of which there are many in central London, but they haven’t, as they are exempt from ULEZ.

Luckily he only has to deal in copper pipe and boxes of tiles and cement. Mind you, the car inside was like new, only the driver's seat had been sat in by the looks of it. Mum's pleased about it - she's 95 in April so it'll make a nice change from sitting in the van with her wheelchair in the back!

Aye, suffice it to say, my comment was somewhat glib as I haven't looked into the nuts and bolts of the thing.

Nice to see people getting mad about a tax that doesn't exist and has not been proposed in any way, shape or form.

If they found a way of taxing clickbait and baseless fume we'd have a national surplus instead of deficit in no time.
