"PARIS -- A French newspaper is reporting that American forward Charlie Davies, who nearly died in a car crash last year, was caught speeding at 125 miles per hour last weekend.

The website of Le Progres newspaper reported Friday that Davies was driving an Audi Q7 last Sunday when he was caught on a motorway in France's Jura region.

Davies, who plays for French club Sochaux, was involved in a car accident on Oct. 13, 2009, that killed another passenger and left him severely hurt. He was not the driver.

He suffered two broken bones in his right leg, a broken and dislocated left elbow, a broken nose, forehead and eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on the brain.

The 24-year-old missed the World Cup.

Davies scored two goals for Sochaux against Bordeaux near the start of the 2009-10 season, but has not yet played on the first team this season.

He has four goals in 17 games for the U.S. and played a part in the run to the 2009 Confederations Cup final.

After an incredible recovery, Davies returned to training with Sochaux in March this year."

What an idiot. Cheating death once isn't enough I guess. 125mph? WTF

I go 100mph regularly and sometimes up to 130mph. If you are in a car that can handle those speeds there isn't much difference than going 60mph. You guys are being a bit harsh. You can just as well die in a car going half those speeds.

If anything this shows that he isn't scarred by what happened. Now if you tell me he was going 100mph and drifting I will say he is crazy but hitting high speeds in a good car is nothing to be afraid of.

You can't be serious.

Sure, you can die going 60 or 130, but even without any numbers in front of me, I'm guessing your odds of death/severe injury sky rocket the further you move from the posted speed limits.

Maybe Charlie isn't scarred by what happened to him, but that doesn't make it any smarter. Be like saying a drug addict is showing how they've gotten over their last overdose by going on a binge.

And if you live in America (IF) then I call complete BS on your 100/130 mph boast.

That's one of the most mind-numbingly ignorant comments i've ever read, surely a joke?

I certainly hope there aren't many of yanks driving at that speed as other than when Montana had some different speeding limit during daylight hours, I don't see where that is okay.

I remember when I was stationed in Germany back in the late 80's/early 90's when there was an article talking about how the Germans were most afraid of American drivers in Germany as so many all of a sudden thought that driving on the autobahn gave them the right to think they were race car drivers.

I believe that.

Everyone knows that apparently Davies WASN'T the driver, but only claimed to be because the real driver (Faty) thought his license was still suspended in France, and that he'd be risking six months of jail, right?
