Sevilla not winning away in the league all season is awful but is also an aberration and isn't something you can expect to be repeated but they've also won the Europa League and are in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona at the weekend and have rotated their team quite a bit in La Liga prioritizing the 2 cup competitions.

For me Emery is a much more proven candidate than a De Boer at a club in a higher quality league against much stiffer competition with much more success in Europe, winning the league at Ajax to me is like winning it at Celtic or Rangers, only them and PSV can win it anyway.

De Boer failing to get past Rapid Vienna in CL qualifying is every bit as alarming as Emery failing to win an away game, you lost a 40m game to an Austrian team.

I think that's a tad harsh on De Boer. Lets not forget he won 4 consecutive leagues. As for Celtic/Rangers thing in the last 25 years in Scotland only two teams have won the league in Holland that is 5 (I think). His achievements are very good.

That doesn't and shouldn't discount Emery. 7th is a very respectable finish especially when you consider he has prioritised the Europa League. I do worry slightly he might be a better version of Martinez in how he prioritised Europe over the league last season in that he may be a "cup manager".

De Boer is more natural with young players which is a plus. However Emery seems very comfortable under a Sporting Director and at Sevilla there hasn't been the same emphasis on academy products. Whoever comes in as our Sporting Director needs to build a youth strategy to being very central and I'd hope he would embrace that, as he has embraced working under constrains at Sevilla.

Overall though we are nitpicking. I think both De Boer and Emery will at some point end up in top jobs. I think both will use us as a stepping stone but will benefit the club massively for getting either. Both would be very good appointments.

The fact he kept Valencia in the top four during the years following the arse falling out of them financially should soothe any concerns regarding league performance.

He seems to be manager who sets out with a specific target for the season (Champions League qualification at Valencia, trophies at Sevilla) and generally achieves it.

He was my number one choice when Moyes left, and nothing has happened since then that would make me reconsider. Get him in.

My only worry is he might try and do what Martinez did last year and set the Europa league as his target. I have little doubt the implantation would be far better. For me though it wasn't just the implantation that was the problem for Martinez but it was his decision making. If he comes in he will need to treat the league as his first concern.

Other than someone on talksport mentioning him where is there any substantiated quote or link to him being interested at all in joining us?

FDB has had his agent and brother mention us, to my mind he is the only one who has expressed a public interest...

A journalist stated he'd be interested in talking to us.

I can understand why Deulofeu and him didn't get on, Vitolo and Coke wouldn't look out of place as FBs which i think Coke is naturally anyway, similarly Krychowiak, Nzonzi and Banega are all very capable defensive midfielders although Banega does enjoy the freedom of being played further forward and Gamiero is a workhorse, seeing him chase every ball yesterday threw me back to the days of when we had Johnson chasing every lost ball.

In 1 way from what we had under Martinez he would be a massive step forward in terms of a defensive set up and they do play some nice football there 2nd goal in particular, the build up was beautiful from the back.

I still have my doubts though, he's got a good thing going at Sevilla, now has a chance in the champions league and has to massively improve there away form in the league which was horrific with no wins away in the league all season.

I still see our next manager being out of contract, i just can't see us paying a compensation package after the amount we have had to pay out on Martinez' severance package so the likes of De Boer are still the front runner for me.

If you aren't willing to run yourself into the ground for the cause, you just won't stay in that Sevilla side for long, Both Delefeou last season and Konoplyanka this season got dropped due to not being willing to work hard enough for the team - regardless of their individual talent they have.

Overall i guess it's how you create a team spirit by not carrying ANYONE no matter their talent, sems to work for him though must say

Having only ever seen 5-6 games from Sevilla under Emery, and until last night not really even paying attention to who the coach was, got to say tactically he is amongst the best, got the last 3 Uefa finals pretty much spot on. And any coach who can get all the players buying into a style that requires a huge amount of grafting deserves respect

Comparing how him and Koeman did at Valencia though, have to rate Emery much much higher - took over a team on it's arse after Koeman was a disaster there and got them right back to the top of La Liga, guess thats the best way to compare them against each other as they basically had the same team to work with and one far exceeded the other

I imagine the objectives will come directly from the board now, seeing as though Moshiri appears to be running the show. It should hopefully be a far cry from the days of Moyes and Martinez having carte blanche to do whatever they liked, so long as it didn't require Kenwright actually doing something.

If the target is to attack the Champions League spots, then I recon that's what Emery would do. I know Sevilla's league positions haven't been great, but as far as I know he doesn't subscribe to Martinez's theory that demoralising league defeats increase your chances of winning cup games.

Why did Emery go from Valencia to Sevilla, with respect to the latter, that is a step down? What were the circumstances behind Emery leaving Valencia?

There's always a chance, so why not try? Again, its about trying, trying seriously enough he might even think about it, the rest is up to him.

If we don't approach him and just hire FDB, I would seriously doubt Moshiri's ambitions.

That's after his failed stint at Moscow. Many detractors use that to point to a lack of success outside Spain. Moscow was in UCL so it was a step up.
