Unfullfilled potential

Ellis Simms.... bagging goals for fun under age and reserve games, should have been given more of a chance in the first team IMO.

Was about to post about them.

For me:

Keepers: Simonsen / Wright.

Defenders: Dunne / Unsworth / Ball

Midfield: Parkinson / Williamson / £3mil kid from Arsenal that apparently was actually £750k ? / Grant / Barkley / Rodwell

Attack: Oster / Rodrigo / Cadamateri / Jeffers / Rooney / Lookman

Special mentions as well for Materazzi, Dacourt, Speed and Bakayoko. All for different reasons.

Tempted to include Bilic and Nyarko but they can GTF.
Rooney as unfulfilled potential 🤔? He retired united and englands top goalscorer and won everything you possibly can at club level

More so with us. However, I'd also say that he could have been even better but for Ferguson turning him into a team cog rather than the maverick he was with us.

Makes me wonder if Gazza had signed for United whether he would have been remembered so fondly (for footballing ability).

I'd probably say similar about Stones.

Deffo Billy Kenny, as others have said he looked to have the lot and should have captained us through the 90's. Unfortunately for us and him his mates dragged him down.

I'd also say Jeffers though. He was a real diamond those first couple of seasons. Shame he's a class a bellend and it all went to his head. Definitely wasted his potential.

There's been many , obviously Billy Kenny , the big one James Vaughan but for the injuries.
Lately Lewis Warrington looked to have everything rising through the ranks , still only 22 and will have a good career.
I think as you two , and no doubt others have said billy is the stand out . The lad had real talent and although that derby performance epitomised it and was the stand out anyone who’d seen him play could see he was a genuine prospect with every chance of a very successful career at the top level. Billy was unfortunately his own worst enemy and it seems he realises the mistakes he made , it’s a real shame for what might have been . If you’re talking unfulfilled Everton potential I can’t believe you can look further than billy kenny .
Jeffers went too early
Like you and @adi dassler both say Franny is another one . Someone who was anxious to progress his own career financially and in terms of ambition but in doing so probably held back his own development. If memory serves Before the move to arsenal he’d also agitated for a new deal the year before despite having just signed and made noises that if it didn’t happen he’d leave . Im
Sure he was dropped on the back of it and eventually the arsenal move came a year later but he’d have done his own career development so much more good by staying and playing every week and learning from the players around him . I’m not naive I know players leave Everton but if I had been advising franny another year would I’m my opinion have been huge long term. The lad was a talent but should have another star and he wasn’t .
