United.. a clear victim of their own hype

I agree.

I think it would've been a different game if Hargreaves was fit and sitting in front of the defence. They needed a ball winner in the mid for this game - Giggs, Carrick and Anderson were not it.

Hargreaves is a massive miss. Very disciplined and would have disrupted Barca's play up no end without conceding silly free kicks. The thing about United is that they would never play Barca the way Chelsea did, it's just not part of the philosophy of that club. They live or die by playing adventurous football and this time they perished to a gifted Barca team. As I say, I'm not Barca's biggest fan, but facts are facts. United can have no complaints on this occasion.

Oh so last season in their two legs against Barca when they parked the bus at the Nou Camp, scored and then parked the bus at Old Trafford for 80 minutes wasnt Chelsea like?

Lets stop talking about United like they're some mythical beast.

Good point, and that's what I expected tonight.

But it was good to see that they didnt do that and at least tried to play....but that allowed Barca to play.

That's not my recollection of the OT leg against Barca last season - a game that ebbed and flowed with chances for each side.

Let's not elevate them? Sure. Let's not right them off as having feet of clay either. They're a great team who were eclipsed tonight by a team at the top of their game playing superior football.

Ryan Giggs is nowhere near good enough to play in a Champions League final anymore. Him in for Fletcher was the big deciding factor in my opinion.

Giggs in the midfield hurt United tonight (when could you have ever said that prior to tonight?)

I also felt that United could never seem to get the ball to Ronaldo or Rooney as they seemed to be isolated for much of the match, especially Rooney.

Let's also be clear here that Barca were less than 30 seconds from not even playing in this match whereas it was never really a doubt for United. I think that SAF's tactics here played more of a part than any superiority on the part of Barca.

Barca played Chelsea and United played Arsenal.

I'd expect them to have a tougher time.

I guess United fans can give that excuse as well, say that they never got to play Barca with their proper tactics or whatever, but fact is that United squad was pretty much full strength and Barca were missing 3 of their back 4. And they still dominated them, and the players who played for United still underperformed, whether the tactics were incorrect or not.

And I agree that they were. They certainly added to United's problems, but I think to dismiss Barcelona on account of them isn't right.
