So what was the excuse for the majority of the last two years where he's been the sullen ping-pong shins player we're seeing tonight?

He has no technique, so why we're asking him to "do a Heskey" is absolutely beyond me. It's nothing to do with fitness.


He came a long way last season in that regard, it is definitely a weakness of his game but he has improved.

maybe it's cos he's playing alongside Del/Kev. In that Koeman's asking him to be the target man with the pace of the others to run off him. Nothing wrong with trying it now - in pre-season - is there.

Despite what we all think we know Koeman will be wanting to try out the different combinations etc. no better time than this to do that...
 
.....you can see why RK wants do much more from his defensive midfielders. Under RM they sat deep and gave the ball to Barkley but now they have responsibility for a much bigger area of the pitch. It's a totally new role.
 
Right, I´m going to leave you be. But we look as effed as we did under Martinez and desperately need signings.
