USA v Slovenia

Altidore is a work in progress but you don't have time for that at a World Cup. I will give him credit for knocking the header into the path of Bradley for our second goal.

My real concern is that we're leaking goals at an alarming rate (is there any other kind of rate?) and that needs to be fixed asap.

Algeria will be no pushovers as evidenced by their game against England.

Yea but I dont think they had [Poor language removed] for shots on target..

My observations:

1) USA in the first half, in English terms...absolute rubbish.

2) Torres just didn't get it done.

3) Might see Goodson pair Demerit in the match against Algeria

4) Feilhaber/Edu additions made a huge difference

5) Altidore needs to learn to know what to do after he gets around his man and know he doesn't have time on the ball.

6) Bradley only plays cause his dad is the coach (according to the last few idiot American supporters who believe that)

7) I'm being honest here. When I saw the referee for the match, I knew there would be some bad [Poor language removed]. Unfortunately it happened to us. I'm still fuming about the Frings handball on the line in '02 and now this ?????? This guy won't see the field again this World Cup or FIFA is officially corrupt. Why can't they just have referees from the countries who have top leagues? This ref made the MLS referees look good, and that's saying something.

8) Win against Algeria, and we move on. Lose and we deserve to be sent home. It's that simple.

This may benefit us a bit, we tend to do well when there is an ultimatum involved... I know, I know, many of the guys were saying the same thing for the Slovenia game, but it obviously isnt the same since we are still in the running and we didn't win.

and can I go on the record to say that Gooch is horrible and always has been?

Make no mistake. The USA will make it hard on themselves and Algeria will play like freaking Brazil against us. It'll be a all hands on deck type of match. Believe me.

I'm hoping for a 1-0 win but since we can't keep the ball out of our own net, I'm hoping for 2-1.

Algeria will not be using the same game plan as today. They wanted one point today and they got it. The next game will be different, they will be force to attack and I can foresee huge gap being exploited by team USA.

Good point my friend and I hope you're right. We just have to cut out the stupid mistakes. That's really unlike us. Perhaps the pressure is getting to us.

No mistake here.. I'm sure we will try and walk up a dirt mound and end up scaling mount everest

Well the recipe for success is have a half decent first half and grab the first goal. After that we have to control the middle of the park catch the Algerians on the break which England had a hard time doing. Has to be a win and we have to go in with that mentality.

Wow. What a game. My boss kept going off about budgets & nonsense, I almost cursed him off in 2nd half.

Anyway, good points as usual Bill.

2) Don't wanna be too harsh on him, but he wasn't the answer today. Nice free kick & still very young. I'd say Slovenia coach one upped BB's chess move here. Still feel Edu is our best option (think I'm alone but will keep saying it)

3) We very well may. Whether we should? Kind of torn. To go far I think we need Gooch. To stay alive he may need a rest. But he needs time to get to 100%. 50/50 on this.

4) Great adjustments, hats off to Bob for his willingness to make the necessary changes.

5) Very frustrating Jozy can be. I still think he just needs a goal or 2 & he could go on a tear. But w/ him at least he gives you other things, namely wears down defenders w/ the best of them. Combined w/ our top fitness I think this is important for us. W/ Findley out I'd go jozy/buddle w/ herc as sub.

6) Lol. I hear Bob was close to calling his sister into camp cupcake.

Ah...deep breath (count to 10).

So, how did Ingerlland do???

Updated scenarios after England-Algeria draw:

IF THE U.S. DEFEATS ALGERIA ON WEDNESDAY
It will advance to the round of 16

IF THE U.S. TIES ALGERIA
It will advance if Slovenia defeats England on Wednesday.
It will advance if Slovenia and England tie and England finishes with fewer total goals than the United States.
The United States will not advance with a tie and an England win over Slovenia.

IF THE U.S. LOSES TO ALGERIA
It will not advance.

Good stuff spike. Wake me up thursday lmk what happened k? The emotional roller coaster is killing me too young for a heart attck.

I have always liked Torres, but he did not quite do it today, but I am going to give him a break because BB always has used Feilhaber or Clark paired with his son, so to throw him into a game like that is not really fair. I have actually never seen him play but a few moments in center with son.

Random thoughts. I thought that the Slovenia coach out coached BB in the first half in that his team came out wanting the win, when I think that BB thought that they would bunker in and allow them possession, which he did not. I think that it confused the US's game plan.

The second half was when BB out coached the Slovenia coach with his subs. I thought that Edu, until the last goal, and it was a goal, lost the ball with lazy passes and poor play. He did deserve the goal and the US team deserved the win, although had they played better the first half them it would have been a sidenote to the game, not the howler of a poor decision and decisions that it became.

LD stood up tall today and, I am not sure why he is not the captain of the team, which he is in actuality. He put the team on his back and got them back into the match.

I will still take Howard over most goalies in the WC. He would not have backed away when Donovan hit that goal.

Altidore had better moments the second half and is developing into a force. He uses his body well and draws a lot of fouls and totally frustrates the other team. I would at this point take the forwards that the US has right now over Englands, which I would never have said prior to their game against Algeria.

Bradley is better in an offensive mid position, and again delievered his dad a goal for fathers day.

Dolu is superb at defense and certainly has upped his status as well as Demerit. Gooch is not yet match fit, and Bocanegra is solid but has spells of uncertain play.
