Used car craziness...

I’ve used select car contracts a few times mate, had a few brand new cars of them never had any issues at all. Easy to deal with and fast.

Sorted my first lease out with Select last week.

Had my name down for a 1.5 Ford Kuga ST Line with Peoples Ford in Bootle, they originally said December’21, got in touch last week and its now March.

Went on Select Car and sorted myself out a 2.5 Ford Kuga ST Line X PHEV and its getting delivered in two weeks, in the colour i want, same annual mileage and its cheaper than what Ford were wanting per month & im arguably getting a better car.

So yeah, in short - would recommend Select Car Leasing.

Took my c3 aircross into the garage for a service. 3.5 years old. Out the blue they offered £13k for it. Was only valued at just over £10k about a year ago. Due to hand back in May after 4 years. With the bubble payment £6k. If prices keep going this way, it is getting sold and a big deposit on something newer. Will probs have to start thinking of ordering something nowish. But £7k+ in my back pocket is going to make for a lovely bargaining chip as a deposit.

Bought a lovely 2011 Volvo C30 on Carvana (US Cazoo) 6 months ago - at 16.5k I likely overpaid but it had only 30k miles. Looked today and they are selling for 21-22k (dollars). Its mad.

I thought the lack of those chips was down to manufacturers not taking up the supply of them during lockdown as nobody was buying cars which then meant computer and phone companies bought up their allocation. Now car companies are at the back of the line for them.

Is there just a general shortage of all parts now?
There are massive problems with the supply chain of all parts that need to be imported from Europe elsewhere - Brexit very definitely is a major factor. And it's not just imported cars that need imported parts, Bentley source a large number of their components from Europe amongst others and there are delays especially of sheet metal parts, body panels etc.

Got a pcp finishing in Dec, went Cazoo for a valuation 15 days ago and again today, their value was £3k less today….. think the used car bubble may be bursting…..
Clear history and cookies and try again. Bit like flights, holidays that go up in price if you keep checking. With supply issues, prices will only be going one way.

Was thinking of putting this in the minor things that annoy you thread.

There seems to be a very big difference between what WBAC and dealers will offer on your car against what they are selling nearly new for.

Just been offered 24k by WBAC and 24.5k by a Jaguar dealer against a new car. On the Jaguar approved there is only one car with same year/plate and spec but with an extra 10k miles on and they are asking 31k for it.

Just looked at another used listed at 45k put it‘s details into WBAC and they will only offer just under 34k :red:

Either the market is due a correction or they are really living up to their alternative name of ”Stealers”

Anyone sold a car privately recently on the likes of Autotader or FB Marketplace? They advise to list at 29.5k which is a lot more palatable but concerned people just don’t buy from private sellers anymore.

Sell it on autotrader and make sure the funds have cleared in your account before you release the car

A few hours of messing about for £5k

100 % sell it private.

The likes of We Buy Any Car, will just try and rip you and offer you way below bottom book.

I`d try Auto Trader and also put it on the likes of Gumtree too.

As the mileage is so low and if you`ve got all the history, it should sell quickly, but I suspect you`ll also get a lot interest from dealers too - " I`ll give you X amount now and come around and take it off your hands now ".

Don`t entertain them, as they`ll try and knock you down further on the doorstep and they`re just as bad as We Buy Any Car.
Cost £7000 new. Sold it to Cazoo for £6000. No haggling. Car driven onto the truck and cash in the bank 2 minutes later.
I had decided to trade it in against a new car but was only offered £4400.
