The players over the last two matches showed actual character. Not used to seeing it but I’m confident we can avoid being smashed against a Costa Rica side that recently have struggled to score goals. Don’t count your chickens and all that, but they’re at least starting to hatch.

Yeah, think you have that right. In order of preference of the seeded teams...Would prefer Qatar, Portugal (or if they lose whoever slots in), Argentina, England, Brazil, Belgium, France, and Spain...Really outside of Qatar it's not pretty, but Belgium, France, and Spain are awful matchups for different reasons.

I would say they're awful matchups for the same reason - because our possession numbers will look downright Evertonian against all three. The mechanisms by which each wins are different, but it starts with having the ball. Spain is probably the most problematic, as you point out, because we're just not good enough defensively to execute Italy's winning game plan against them.
