USMNT

Wouldn’t hate trying a front 3 of Pulisic - Weah - Reyna. That’s dynamic enough to cause problems for most anyone. Where we’d probably struggle is against ball dominant sides where we need an outlet target.

Also, I don’t really understand why Hoppe has been seemingly frozen out altogether. He’s versatile enough to have around even if he’s not first choice.
I imagine it is because he's getting almost no game time at club level. It is disappointing though, I thought he was good last summer and he's a change of pace off the bench. Similar style to Morris I guess but definitely better.

Costa Rica aren't really even well organized, Navas was simply incredible. It wouldn't stun me if they ended up being the worst team at the tournament. Likewise Navas could just keep it up.

The US played really well at times. I'm not so worried about their ability to play against teams that look to play. They've had good showings against Mexico for example. What is going to be an issue is if they draw someone like Morocco or Iran who will keep it tight and possibly hurt them breaking.

10 years ago CR was probably a fringe top 20 in the world team. Those days are over, its Navas and nothing.

What's crazy is for me that side is easily the best I've seen at a World Cup (I'm too young to actually remember 2002). They were actually pretty decent, Dempsey and Donovan near their peaks, a serviceable and settled backline, Howard was still good, Bradley was at the point where he could actually get around the midfield and Altidore was at least annoying. The only problem was the second striker and Bob insisting on Ricardo Clark. They weren't a million miles from the quarter and who knows, maybe they don't get shithoused by Uruguay. Freaking Ricardo Clark.

That team peaked before the world cup. Davies was the missing piece, a quick forward who could score and create space for everyone. He made Altidore, Donovan and Dempsey better players. Urugray-USA w/ Davies would have been an awesome 3-2/4-3ish match.

They played really fun footie as well.

we were doing @#% like this

FF to 0:24

Then he got in that car wreck, the team was still decent. Bradley tried to replace him w/ some dude named Findley who definitely was not Davies it just wasn't the same everything became more of a slog. The counter attacking went from being beautiful to be physical and somewhat effective.

Holden-Davies could have been the lynchpins of the 2010s side. They might have been capable of playing a style that Jurgen tried to implement. What could have been.

That Confederations Cup was the closest we will come to a trophy against meaningful talent/teams for the foreseeable future.

This is interesting to me. I guess because Europe has to have a team in each group but no more than two there are a lot of scenarios where the US has to get one of the Euro teams from pot 3 in the group. Same with the Euro playoff winner from pot 4 being apparently well more likely. I think if we're picking the ideal European team from those pots it is Poland. Yes I know they have Lewandowski but they've had him for awhile and done nothing of note in a major tournament.

I don't watch many Poland games but thought they looked good against England in qualifying and held Spain at the Euros. Dealt with Sweden pretty easily in the play off. But you're right they don't seem to put it together at tournaments.

Certainly a what could have been. Davies was looking so promising before the wreck. Holden as well would've been a mainstay without the injuries

Pretty entertaining against Uruguay so far. Also Walker Zimmerman continues to be underrated with this group. He’s a rock and a better passer out of the back than he gets credit for. Penciled in at Right Center Back imo.
