USMNT

I think that's European bias. I definitely believe both Mexico and USA are better than the likes of Denmark, Switzerland, Uruguay and even Netherlands. Only Germany are definitely better than US/Mexico and probably Croatia too.

I have to disagree.

But probably because you listed Denmark and Switzerland, which are clearly underrated. Switzerland finished above the European Champions, eliminated the world champions at the Euros. Denmark made a semi final leee than a year ago.

Uruguay I can agree with.

USA will travel welll, and that’s a massive bonus, but they’re not a major threat to me.

I'm just not sure it matters all that much. Even a perceived group of death, say England, Germany, Senegal and Peru, would still have the two top teams as huge favorites. The draw is mostly about which pot 3 and 4 teams get screwed imo.

I don’t think you can get a group of death anymore.
Looked at how the pots have fallen and there’s nothing that looks particularly juicy for me.

As an England fan, you’ve got to be looking at Mexico, USA, as the sides you want in Pot 2.

Lots of potential in that US Squad, but feels you stuttered over the line again.
Most national team managers are mince. If they were any good, they would be managing a club. But our manager seems worse than most. He actually used up all 5 subs early in Panama and then had to finish the match with 10 after someone got hurt.

On the other hand, this was an idiotic qualifying setup. Three matches per window led to some horrible games and heavy rotation of squads. It really benefited a country like Costa Rica with few players outside their domestic league and no desire to play good football.

It’s fair.

I blame the coach for US really. This US Crop should have walked thag group, which is no insult to Canada or Mexico, but it’s stacked with potential.

Costa Rica are just organised from what I’ve seen. Almost carbon copy of Panama in 2018. No thrills but can get the job done.

Costa Rica aren't really even well organized, Navas was simply incredible. It wouldn't stun me if they ended up being the worst team at the tournament. Likewise Navas could just keep it up.

The US played really well at times. I'm not so worried about their ability to play against teams that look to play. They've had good showings against Mexico for example. What is going to be an issue is if they draw someone like Morocco or Iran who will keep it tight and possibly hurt them breaking.

This is interesting to me. I guess because Europe has to have a team in each group but no more than two there are a lot of scenarios where the US has to get one of the Euro teams from pot 3 in the group. Same with the Euro playoff winner from pot 4 being apparently well more likely. I think if we're picking the ideal European team from those pots it is Poland. Yes I know they have Lewandowski but they've had him for awhile and done nothing of note in a major tournament.

The hex won’t be coming back. With the tournament expanding to 48 teams, CONCACAF will be guaranteed six spots in the WC going forward.
Which is just ridiculous. You’re basically sending lambs to the slaughter at that point. Just a stupid fifa money grab again with the 48. 32 is the perfect # imo.

I’d rather play Serbia. What exactly have they done?

Yeah I agree. One of the fun things about the current format is the group stage is largely competitive. You're going to get a group I assume where someone like the UAE is playing France. That isn't fun.
