Well, I think Klinsmann has done more with them than I initially gave credit for

I actually don't agree with this, if we're using this tournament as a measuring stick. Not much has changed in four years if we're just going to sit back, defend and counter.

Lot of teams have had good success with that strategy, I think the US lacked not only precision in the midfield but strikers others than Dempsey...I wonder with a healthy Altidore would they have been able to better their WC performances

The point is, and I'm sure you don't realize this as you don't follow the team as closely as some, is that he was brought in to get us to play positively and attack. In fact, up until this tournament, that's what we did. There is really no difference in style or results from this WC to the last, which is not what he promised for 5 times Bradley's salary.

Altidore could have helped with possession, Boyd or Johnson could have too but they were sitting at home.

Not sure all is yet lost. He appeared to make a bad choice with no one to back up Jozy, and Bradley and Dempsey were played out of position too often, but by and large that team seemed to fit the players available. Jones and Beckerman played well and allowed the FBs to attack. I imagine you see a reversion back to the attacking mindset in friendlies to see if the right pieces can be found.

Then again, we might find out after all that it's not be a style that fits the team's personality.

I'm not in a "all is lost" mindframe, I'm just not as excited as some. I agree that we'll see a more attacking mindset once we get back to friendlies and CONCACAF.

I will say that if the plan was to defend and counter the entire time, then Johnson and Donovan should have been on the roster.

Pundits keep talking about the US playing as a "team" but this 23 man roster was cobbled together very quickly and half the squad was played out of position. I believe the pre Cup friendlies were the first time that the starting 11 had all played together.

The reality is we bunkered against Belgium until we went down 2-0. That was ultra risky without Beckerman to shield the back 4. Luckily Howard stood on his head.

I'm proud of what we did in the group stage, but Jurgen had a lot to prove before Russia.

How can you say we did not improve from the last Cup? No one in the States thought we would advance out of that group. And we lost to a team that may very well compete for the whole thing.
