VAR -Gordon's goal v Palace

I think about 3 or 4 seconds earlier, one of the players (may have been Gordon) was in an offside position, but didn't go for the ball. I presume they were checking that phase.

Whatever the reason, fortunately they got it right on this occassion.
I think this was the issue, think the commentator even said Gordon was coming back from an offside position. I have a feeling its why it took so long and not the pics we saw, which is clear he was onside.

Pains me to say it but this is where VAR is needed and was used right, regardless of stevie wonder being the linesman. Don’t get how long it took like you say, but that will be the “Everton” rule, whereby they need to look for anything at all to rule it out.

Imagine if we didn’t have VAR though - an absolutely brilliant goal gets chalked off!

Agree with others that VAR is still an abomination and has stopped me celebrating goals just in case they bollocks it.

Why did it take so long for VAR to not give this goal - the assistant Referee certainly got it so wrong - I suspect VAR were trying to look for anything to back him up to save his embarrassment ? As it's so obvious with the naked eye, he was easily onside ???

Can only assume it’s an earlier passage of play, maybe when Onana played Myko in that he thought he was off. He wasn’t then either of course, but if he thinks he’s off in that image then it’s an even worse decision than originally appears.

Another example of officials in the game not having a clue what they're doing. It was obviously onside right from the start and VAR shouldn't of even been required but once its in use these idiots feel like they have to justify the fact that they went to it. The ref and his team on Saturday where an absolute disgrace so it doesn't surprise me in the least that that he'd take an age to make a basic decision just to placate how own ego. I've said it before and I'll say it again: VAR isn't the problem, its the idiot officials that overseen it that are.

It took so long as they tried all angles and thickness of pen to see how they could prove it was offside. Finally they decided using the jumbo marker might look a bit suspect!

I don’t want to sound cynical but is it not out of the question to suggest the goal was “ruled out” and then given by VAR to bump up statistics in which:

a) VAR has given more goals than it’s ruled out

b) VAR decisions have gone Everton’s way rather than against us

Either that or it’s the worst bit of officiating ive ever seen really!

In the build up, I think Gordon was offside, but then stopped and the play continues past him. He was certainly on-side when he scored. He did not make any attempt to get the ball when offside, but maybe that influenced the linesman (being kind). Anyway, it was still a shocking decision by him and VAR (for once) put it right in our favour.

edit: or what someone else said above!

They gave it, so it's a non-issue to me. That's what VAR is there for to correct terrible decisions (or is at least meant to be) like that one.
The reason why it is an issue for me is because that very poor decision massively detracted from that moment. Football is built on euphoric moments and that ruined it for us and for the players.

Crap.

It took a split second to see it was onside, yet VAR make a drama out of it to make it seem like they are doing their work, or trying to work a way to not give it lol
They do don't they. They're supposed to be there to take the uncertainty out of decisions but they drag it out as if they're on the bloody X Factor.

I was watching it in real time and could tell Gordon was onside by a mile (when you take into account the usual fine margins)
Why they had to deliberate forsook long was beyond me.
Me too. I was sat behind the lino and it was clear as day it was onside. I was so certain I got up, swore at the lino to let him know he was incorrect, walked up the steps, along the back of our enclosure, through the door, opened my zip, and got the (very) old feller out, when I heard the crowd roar that the goal had been given. (Oh maybe I should have said I'd gone for a pee ).

Yes! it was so clear. It would've been fine if it was a fine margin.

I seriously thought we wouldn't get the goal when it went to VAR as it took really long for something quite obvious. Or perhaps it just felt like too long to us because VAR has done us dirty too many times lol
