VAR

The situation where being a fan at the match, sat on the terraces and you can't celebrate a goal until they
have done a VAR check has killed the game stone dead as a spectator sport. They reckon that the
Aguerooooooo goal would have been ruled out by VAR as the ref gave a throw in the wrong way
to City right at the begining of the build up of the move. Football is about passion, emotion and
excitement. VAR has taken that away in my humble opinion.

found myself enjoying watching a bit more championship / SPL during lockdown and you're spot on

I don't like VAR and would happily see it go. Until we have better officials there will still be issues with VAR because it's only as good as the person making the decision.

I would incorporate an element of margin into offsides. If given offside on field then we use the current lines on VAR. If given onside on the field then if they have any part of their body behind the 2nd last player, it remains a goal.

I would also encourage VAR to intervene to retrospectively book players for simulation.

This. Unlike high scoring sports of attrition (cricket, rugby etc) that are stop/start by nature the joy of football is its free flowing spectacle and the ecstatic release of a rare goal, VAR has ruined the game for matchgoing fans.

Goal line tech and a better interpretation of offside and everything else stays on the field.
I was a fan of clear daylight between a defender and attacker, gives the attacker the advantage which it was meant to back what 5/10 years ago when they brought that in. Football atm is being held ransom by IMO the offside rule which was really brought in to stop everyone going Gerd Muller and lying in the 6 yard box the whole game.. i cant see why its such a crucial part of defending trying to step up and catch someone a ballhairs length in front of you.. the amount of time we see players lazily step up with their hands in the air hoping for offside rather than track the runner goes against the art of what football should be.

I think I might have mentioned on another thread that they should look at introducing an 'Umpires call' situation, so fully agree with this, I personally had no idea how but this would be a good start.

Been watching the Rugby in New Zealand and they have introduced a captains referral, early days but seems like a good idea that they could also look into.

If it was up to me I would bin it off. Unfortunately it isn't up to me and they won't. :(
Football managed very well without it for 130 years.
Football was so much better when it was a sport, not 'big business'. It was always meant to be played on a pitch, not a screen.
Before the 'Luddite' shouts start - The true beauty of football is that it's basically the same game whether it's played by top professionals in front of 100,000 spectators, or 22 kids in your local park. There may obviously be a huge difference in talent, but the rules of the game should be the same in both situations.
The game has gone and unfortunately will never return.
It's the 'Prohibition' of football...a good idea in theory but caused much more trouble than it solved and should go the same way - consigned to history.

If we had decent Reffs to start with, not lickspittles directed and paid via PONGO or whatever, by the premier league, for the premier league, who put their own interpretation on what FIFA send out...which is usually iffy anyway.

The Reffs should use it only to confirm what they thought they did...or didnt see
Like the Derby Reff did...quick run over - yep that's what I saw too - Penalty !

I want them to take out the stand opposite the kop and install a massive videoscreen instead so they can watch all of the VAR decisions in ultra high def 200ft tall

It is a joke that Liverpool & United don't have big screens fitted that are able to show VAR decisions (or maybe just a complete coincidence that they are the only PL teams that don't have them?).
All clubs / stadiums in the PL should have them. It should be mandatory just as under soil heating is.

So with the season finished, we have had 2 years of VAR and we are still having problems. It is still boiling down to human interpretation in a studio. The players hate it, they can't celebrate goals properly, the fans hate it for the same reason and all the mistakes still happening.

I heard Andros Townsend on TS saying ditch it, the players can't stand it taking the emotion out of the game. So is it time to ditch VAR for next season?

I hope so I really do.

there has been mission creep, it was supposed to be for clear and obvious errors, but it has crept into deciding upon marginal scrutiny of a technical rule. Give them say 5 seconds to look/review, if it isn't obvious enough to judge on that, go with the on field ref. Mistakes are part of the game and this hasn't cut them out, it said the spontaneity out of the game.

Its a power trip. As it stands bin it. Its like letting Match of the Day control results.
Interested in it being used for ball crossing the line.
If an offside is clearly and obviously "missed" by linesman then fair enough alert ref but any tight decisions involving toes and elbows are daft. An attacker doesnt gain an advantage by an elbow

This for me is the crux of it, being offside by an elbow is making a joke of the game.

You can't celebrate the majority of goals any more, so I think that overrides everything. A couple off the top of my head that you couldn't celebrate until you'd seen the check were Richarlison at Anfield (he was level, that was near enough a 50-50 in real time), DCL at United (difficult to tell in real time if his arm had been involved). In these instances I sat and waited to see if the goal was actually going to be given.

I wanted it as much as anyone and couldn't wait for it, but I was wrong, it's not worth it, the way it currently is.

I'd have it for non-goal incidents, like. Reds and pens. Obviously that could never happen though.

It went south the moment they decided clear and obvious was literally anything. It has gotten out of hand and is killing enjoyment not just for us but the players as well.
