Simple, Celtic wouldn't sell him. They had him under a long contract and didn't need to sell, so they didn't
Celtic, despite what some will say, are a financially secure club with a big fan base who regularly play in Europe. For that reason, they've held onto him for as long as they have. The fact is that there's a World Cup in 2018 and Virge has pretty much been told by the Dutch higher ups that he needs to play in a bigger league to be in consideration to be picked. Hence now, he's going to really push for a move
We buy him for 10 Million now and we'll sell him in 2-3 years for a profit. I guarantee it
It looks like Southampton are going to get him now anyway, which is a shame
He's big, strong, good with the ball at his feet, good in the air and has a cracking free kick in his locker

He plays in a league where Naismith and Jelavic successfully impersonated footballers. Doing well in the Scottish league means absolutely nothing and if he came here he'd end up being ripped to pieces each week by the likes of Jonothan Walters.
Face it, if he was any good he'd be at a higher level than that joke league.

Mikey, you know i don't hate Van Dijk. He seems decent enough (as did Gary Hooper, but that's for a different argument), but if he joins Southampton I'm going to have to despise him? yeah?
