Exactly mate. Like it or not the only teams that aren't feeder clubs for other teams are Real Madrid and Barcelona. Let's face it united had won everything there is with Ronaldo, but they still couldn't keep hold of him when united came calling.
Spurs have lost walker, but are able to retain their other players, due to champions league football. If they drop out of the top 4 next year, the vultures will be circling for Kane and Ali.
Young hungry, talented, players who are desperate to improve is the way forward for us as you say.
And todays Sandros, Lookmans, Keanes and Pickfords are potentially tomorrows Lukaku's, VVDs and de Geas. We can maybe keep them happy for a season or 2 with CL footie but if they continue to progress the vultures will be in. It's just the dynamics of football and we won't be able to stop it. So we either get used to it or tear our hair out every time one of them wants to leave.

Well they will be selling him if they go after both VVD and that Keita bloke as no way could they afford both. Are they just doing what we used to do though with phantom bids to appease fans and say after that they tried etc...

I don't really get people saying they can't afford to spend? Like everyone else they've got the sky money plus the extra £50m or so from champions league football?

I see no reason why they couldn't afford to spend £100m net this summer. They'll recoup around £60m on player sales.

They can afford it very much doubt they get both or one tbh

Just the way the owners work means I can't see them splashing out a huge fee on people.

They could have afforded to spend last season as well - they made about 10m net profit mate.

50m from CL would be if they actually won the competition mate, 5 English teams actually reduces the amount each will receive now by 20% btw also as it goes five rather than four ways.

Plus therir owners are not gonna sanction that CL money being spent when they can possibly still not qualify for it if they lose the playoff, they lose that they come away with about 2m instead.

A lot of that sky money will be going into those new bumper contracts also, 100k for lovren, 150k for lallana, New contract for can which is reported at being 120k plus etc.

No chance on earth they have a net spend remotely close to 100m.

Fair enough and that all makes sense. I just see people on here expecting Everton to have a net spend of £100m (currently around £0m) but suggesting Liverpool won't spend big when their revenue streams dwarf what we bring in.

Yes our owner is loaded but so far all we've done is spend what we've brought in through sales.

Anyway, I'm going off topic. VVD is a great player and I fear he'll make Liverpool much stronger if/when they sign him. It's horrific for Southampton how this has played out with the clear tapping up of the player.

Gut feeling is Southampton will sell reluctantly but will try to sell to anyone other than Liverpool. Think Chelsea could be where he ends up, we have no chance.

We need to get used to players who wanna be of the first opportunity? lol erm no no we don't atall
True, but don't think we need to be aggrieved when players move on either. It's a short career and not everyone will fall in love with the club in the way Cahill or Dunc did. Looking at Lukaku people are annoyed at him wanting out (admittedly he didn't act very well towards the end) but he gave us 4 seasons of better goalscoring records than we'd had in years. We look back fondly at Andy Gray (2 seasons), Gary Lineker (1 season) etc. Let's be happy if a great player wants to come to us for a couple of years and not be too indignant if/when they move on.

Don't think many expect us to spend 100m net mate, very very few in fact do, some may hope we do etc, but thats a long way short of expecting it, we will likely spend around and about another 100m this window and most of that will be recouped by sales of McCarthy, Barkley and a few others

What kind of pen would he use when signing for us?

Montblanc? Parker?

Need to assess his decision making with this one...
