Transfer Rumour Virgil Van Dijk

Understand what you're saying mate and probably agree with the sentiment. But isn't that just what Sigurdsson is doing to try and force a move through to ourselves; withdrawing from their US tour.

To be honest I don't overly want him either. I think we need Virgil more than Sig but I don't respect spoilt child behavior when you are being paid millions to do a job you signed up to do.

Guess comes down to what will stop these players doing exactly this to us if another team they prefer came calling.

If VVD did come here it would solely because of his relationship with RK, who tends not to stay in one place too long. So bet he'd look to be off first oppirtunity. Suppose these are the type of players we neef to get used to.

It's interesting koeman is the happiest and most relaxed about the team (so he should be considering the amount we have spent) he talks so positively about the young players, just maybe he might extend his contract, you never know.

I thought it was just me going mad for a minute.

This was the guy who came out and said Mata and Witsel 'were ours'.

You would think that once someone as been outed as chatting utter utter wham then people wouldn't bother referring to anything they said ever again.
Correct, plus it was not just the fact of Mata and Wietzel but he never mentioned any of the 5 players we did sign that season,Mad.

I couldn't disagree more mate. We're already seeing it now with Lukaku, Stones and even one of our own, Barkley. The days of Steven Gerrard and John Terry are gone, and players like Seamus Coleman are a rarity.

Let's be totally honest with ourselves. We are not able to attract a really top class finished article player to Everton, and even if we start winning trophies and getting regular champions league, we're never going to be able to pay the sort of salaries that top players will demand. The best we can do is get very good players who are peripheral players at top clubs (Rooney, Schneiderlin, Giroud) and combine them with good young players with excellent potential. We can attract those young players as they see us as a stepping stone. A club that will give them the playing time to develop into proper top class players, and earn their move to one of the top tier clubs.

It's happening already as I said. The chances are, if Sandro, Lookman, Keane and Klaassen develop as we hope, then it will happen with them too. It may even happen with some of our home grown youngsters if they develop into top drawer players. The problem we have is that we need to buy these types of players if we are to progress to a team that regularly competes for the CL and for trophies. If the player doesn't have drive and ambition the likelihood is that he won't improve us.

I'd like nothing more than for us to produce this fantastic young team capable of taking on all comers. But as soon as we do this the vultures will start circling, and the players will have their head turned (look at Monaco after just one successful season). They may not go as far as VVD, but at least Southampton know where they stand with him.

As I see it, we have 2 directions we can take as a club. We can stay where we are, as a well respected, fairly well run old fashioned football club. Best of the rest, having the odd good cup run and maybe qualifying for Europe every 2/3 years. Or we can really have a go at challenging the elite, both in this country and in Europe. I think most of us want the latter so we need to get used to players wanting to leave as soon as we've served their purpose. If we don't get used to it, prepare to be disappointed on a regular basis.

Exactly mate. Like it or not the only teams that aren't feeder clubs for other teams are Real Madrid and Barcelona. Let's face it united had won everything there is with Ronaldo, but they still couldn't keep hold of him when united came calling.
Spurs have lost walker, but are able to retain their other players, due to champions league football. If they drop out of the top 4 next year, the vultures will be circling for Kane and Ali.
Young hungry, talented, players who are desperate to improve is the way forward for us as you say.

RS spending the Coutinho money
Well they will be selling him if they go after both VVD and that Keita bloke as no way could they afford both. Are they just doing what we used to do though with phantom bids to appease fans and say after that they tried etc...
