Transfer Rumour Virgil Van Dijk

When was the last time we signed a player they wanted?

Alan Ball? 1966. FIFTY ONE YEARS!!!!!!

I'm guessing the Koeman bros must have some dialogue with the player. They know if they have a strong bond or not. Maybe he would love to work with Koeman, but they're offering wages we can't match?? If money is the only obstacle, it's a fantastic opportunity for Moshiri to make a big statement.
Ian Snodin (86/87)

Remember the amount of control RS has in the media, literally every other pundit is RS. If it suits them for it to be 'common knowledge' he wanted to sign for them then that's what the papers say even if there's no quote or evidence of this anywhere.

For what it's worth, I think he probably would prefer to play for them because of champions league football but that doesn't mean we don't have some sway with Ronk and 'The Project'.

Lots of teams are in the CL/CL running. People saying he wants Liverpool are just making up crap.

Well according to media sources(and that's all we can go off at the moment by the way), that's the decision he has made. Whether that's the truth or not time will tell. That's why Southampton were furious because it stopped the bidding war they wanted between Chelsea, City and the RS. Chelsea have now bought their CB and City seemed to have been scared off for now anyway. Which just leaves the RS at the moment.

Chelsea have bought a full back haven't they in the lad from Monaco?

Technically he could have leaked that statement to the media (hence the 'no quote'), but I doubt it is this case. There are too many biased journalists on the island that would love to see Virgil Van Dijk donning their bloody stool of a jersey.

As @MorgsGoat suggested are the RS prepared to spend big and we mean really to big to land both VVD and keita? Considering they've also spent 35m on Salah, that's potentially a net spend of 160m. They be haven't got CL football yet, I feel they might reignite their interest late in the window if they qualify.
Keane and VVD would be the best centre back partnership in the league, but good things like that don't happen to us.

Chelsea have bought Antonio Rudiger from Roma. The German international who can play CB or RB. City are hoping to sign Mendy, the LB from Monaco. That should be done very soon. Within the next day or so I reckon. They seem to be focusing on the full back areas this summer. Which imo would be the sensible thing for them to do. They have enough CB's already.

City will be very strong this season. Favourites to win it in my eyes.

OH yeah Rudiger can go centreback, although he's been playing full back for Roma I'm sure.

Never know although it's probably realistic they wont bother with VVD now.

City may still do though.

As I've added to my post above, I think City are focusing on the full back areas this summer. They have enough CB's as it is. I wouldn't rule them completely out of the reckoning though. They could just decide to sign him simply because they can.

I get the feeling Southampton wouldn't want to sell to either of us. We've probably annoyed them less, given the RS have taken players from them every summer for about 4 years, but it's going to take over 70 million to get him. Is it worth it? Player plus smug satisfaction? It might just be.

City aren't ones to go and paid huge huge fees are they? Only thing I can think of for them wanting VVD is that Stones is a walking disaster at times and Kompany is always injured. Otamendi is meh.

You do all know Van Dijk still isnt taking part in full team training after his 6 month !!! ankle injury do you ?

Imagine him going through the famous Everton medical.

Cracking player like....but there must be concerns over a "run of the mill injury" taking so long to clear up.

Would be a full on Statement Signing tho.

City and united will come to the fore this season, as they have the biggest squads. Chelsea and RS have Europe to contend with and Spurs have Wembley to overcome.
