Think everyone is going way over the top about Saturday’s win. It’s almost like we haven’t been here before then crashed down to Earth after every victory.

Every good result, however rare, we've gone overboard like that. And it was immediately followed by crap performances as you said. They'll never learn.

It’s obvious to say, but with Baines and Ashley Cole in the coaching team this lad has an incredible opportunity to learn.

If he could become a sort of hybrid of the two then he’d be a bit special.

It’s starting to look like swapping him out for Digne was a good choice after all, just probably at the wrong time in hindsight.

People have judged him too harshly because he wasn’t immediately prime Leighton Baines.

I don’t think he’ll ever be that player. Most people saw when he joined that his primary game is around a solid defence and then he can pick some decent passes and cut backs when going forward. He’s not going to be playing one twos and flicks down the left flank then curling in pin point crosses.

When he joined there seemed to be an appreciation that we needed more solidity at the back because Digne getting caught upfield was dragging Keane out of position and causing us a world of problems. We also couldn’t stop any crosses from either flank coming into our box.

Mykolenko has taken a while to adapt to the pace and physicality of the league (hardly a massive shock) but now that he’s getting used to it he’s showing he can be solid defensively, he’s stopping crosses coming in, he’s shutting wingers down one on one, he’s starting to get his attacking game going.

Lo and behold we start to look a tiny bit better balanced with Coleman being marginally better than Kenny on the other side, Keane and Godfrey could focus on the one thing they can actually do (defend deep)

Considering the conditions he joined the club in i think he’s done well to get to where he is now and those writing him off after a few games just because they hated Benitez were beyond ridiculous and now just look like fools.

He’s nailed down the left back spot now taking it off Kenny and Godfrey. Meanwhile Villa concede 4 at the weekend and from the bit I watched Digne still hasn’t learned that unless you can get an accurate cross in, then losing the ball that far up the pitch and not sprinting back to defend still isn’t a good idea.

Get Nkonkou in working under Baines and Cole and let him deputise for Mykolenko next season. That’s one position sorted.

Agree. However that is not the point being made by those who are trumpeting mykolenko's passion as he thumps the ground at the end of the game. I couldn't give a camels arse if he does not have another good game all season. In that one action he has showed us all what it means to him to be a blue. The very passion hundreds on this board have been saying has been missing since September. So come on. Love him for it in the now instead of looking in your crystal balls and doubting him - and the team.

Villa fans are far from impressed with Digne by the looks of it, many saying he hasn't even been as good as Targett was, and many are bewildered as to why they gave him a lucrative 4 year deal at 29.

Imo that deal Reeks of Gerrard's own selfish for the now ambitions.

I think you nailed it about Mykolenko + Nkounkou sorting out Left back.

I am hopeful for both next season and cant be bad having Cole and Baines coaching them.

Nice link ;)

On top of that theyre saying he seems injury prone and that was before his collarbone injury.

@BlueToff

Mykolenko on the way up...Digne on the way down.

No problem with the Digne sale and replacing him with a younger prospect. That’s our model.

But do it in the summer. You can’t do it in the middle of a relegation fight!
