No problem with the Digne sale and replacing him with a younger prospect. That’s our model.

But do it in the summer. You can’t do it in the middle of a relegation fight!

I think accounts wise, we had to do it in Jan.

(How depressing is that?)

People have judged him too harshly because he wasn’t immediately prime Leighton Baines.

I don’t think he’ll ever be that player. Most people saw when he joined that his primary game is around a solid defence and then he can pick some decent passes and cut backs when going forward. He’s not going to be playing one twos and flicks down the left flank then curling in pin point crosses.

When he joined there seemed to be an appreciation that we needed more solidity at the back because Digne getting caught upfield was dragging Keane out of position and causing us a world of problems. We also couldn’t stop any crosses from either flank coming into our box.

Mykolenko has taken a while to adapt to the pace and physicality of the league (hardly a massive shock) but now that he’s getting used to it he’s showing he can be solid defensively, he’s stopping crosses coming in, he’s shutting wingers down one on one, he’s starting to get his attacking game going.

Lo and behold we start to look a tiny bit better balanced with Coleman being marginally better than Kenny on the other side, Keane and Godfrey could focus on the one thing they can actually do (defend deep)

Considering the conditions he joined the club in i think he’s done well to get to where he is now and those writing him off after a few games just because they hated Benitez were beyond ridiculous and now just look like fools.

He’s nailed down the left back spot now taking it off Kenny and Godfrey. Meanwhile Villa concede 4 at the weekend and from the bit I watched Digne still hasn’t learned that unless you can get an accurate cross in, then losing the ball that far up the pitch and not sprinting back to defend still isn’t a good idea.

Get Nkonkou in working under Baines and Cole and let him deputise for Mykolenko next season. That’s one position sorted.
He had also not played for a couple of months due to the long winter break in Ukraine.

Liked what I saw from Mykolenko against Burnley and against united, let’s hope he keeps getting better, but he’s young and with everything else he’s contending with he might have a few off days so let’s not be too hasty with the praise or the moans.

Hope Patterson gets back fit and firing for next season - him at rb and mykolenko at lb look positive and full of potential.

Has been improving lately was always going to take him time and he is always going to ebb and flow as he gets used to the league and with all the horror in his home land but that said Saturday was his best game yet. Well played lad

Without going overboard I'm actually amazed how quickly the lad has settled in. He's been here 10 weeks.

Coming from a league way below the Prem , replacing a fans favourite in the middle of rubbish season , with the club verging on turmoil.
Couple this with the carnage going on in his homeland I think he's only to be commended for the way he's handled it.
Early days , but he has certainly shown he can go on to be very good for this club.

Considering what has gone on since he signed both at club and his homeland, I'm in awe of the young man. He certainly has that mentality the squad has lacked. And he can play...

I prefer not to speak. If I speak I am in big trouble. In biiiiiig trouble.

@BlueToff
Yeah he was shocking in the 2nd half the other day from what I saw. Still created four chances for them in the first half which was mad. I'm not kidding when I say he was getting in every time and laid up a few very good ones but yeah, proper crap after that.

Myko played great the other day and I thought he was decent at Burnley too. I hope he keeps it up. I still think we'll get another LB if we stay up though, and we need one because we can't go into another season with just one FB for each side. I don't think going in with Myko and Nkounkou would be very sensible.

Also, having an actual midfield three that had legs in Allan and Iwobi but discipline in Delph allowed Mykolenko to get forward more and he looked like he had a bit more conviction to his play.

I mean a week ago tbh mate I think loads, myself included, would have said the exact opposite.

I've always taken into account the wider context around Ukraine etc and that was only fair. I also am on record in here saying he'd need 6 months back in January so I'm still happy to stand by that we'll see the best of him next season.

My whole issue with the transfer is when and why it was done. That's not on the player though and in the last two games, and overall against West Ham he was alright (not awful, not good), I think he's really come on.

It's about trust and he's proved to Lampard that he can be trusted now and so he'll be playing and that's good for him. Kenny, on the other hand, has proved he cannot be trusted and that he's not worthy of a new deal even for 12 months.

Took the Villa fans a handful of games to see what some fans on here still won’t admit because they’re all ‘je suis Lucas’

The only love affair Digne had was the one with himself.

Honestly think it’s mad that we thought, loosing Jamo, Digne and Gylfi that we’d be alright.

That’s a hell of a lot of chance creation gone out of the team and look where we are.….

Our last four goals in our last theee games came of two defected shots and two penalties.

Those losses have been massive for us, DCL hasn’t touched a ball in the six yard box since 2020.

Whatever anyones opinion on individual players, taking a scalpel to any progressive player we had in the squad was stupid, all of them lunacy (Gylfi excluded) and the results are apparent to my mind.

I thought possibly next season the lad would be settled in ( some take much longer ) . So fair play to the lad all things considered.

On Kenny ....agreed 100%
