I know Benitez treated Digne badly but I don’t think Lucas was blameless either

Myko seems to have a better attitude and still has the chance to grow and evolve further

Digne wasn’t the player we needed for where we are. He’s not the type who will stop 6 crosses in a row, he’ll do one or two then get fed up or get caught out of position. He’d probably look good at a City or PSG but we’re just not the sort of club that can carry a full back who isn’t too interested in defending.

Mykolenko is a better fit for where we find ourselves.

We should have really just signed Tierney when we had the chance instead of getting Digne to begin with as he can do it all, but no point crying over spilt milk I guess

Of course Benitez knew who he was. He had an extensive footballing database at his disposal, and he knew it was the right thing to do to get rid of Lucas Digne and bring in Vitalii Mykolenko. Full credit to the man.

I think Digne was in his first season but after that I think he was a fairly standard attack minded left back. I think Digne was a little overrated by the fanbase if I’m honest. I’m not comparing the two after a couple of good games either
