2021/22 Vitalii Mykolenko

How many times he got skinned by players coming inside him (fnar) was disturbing.
Yeah, because he's not an aggressive defender. He waits. He doesn't go into duels as much as Digne (I'm using him because he was our LB) or Godfrey, who both defend aggressively. I'd say one of Digne's faults was his tendency to dive in too much and get skinned, whereas Mykolenko's problem tonight was basically the opposite; gave the players a bit too much time and then they could get a run at him.

It's one game. He's got 120 mins under his belt and will need this half a season to bed in.

Oh I know he needs time- but we don't have that thanks to El Gordo

Thought he was good. Got skinned a couple of times at the end but overall he was defensively solid, was also in the danger zone a lot getting his body in the way. Looked a scrapper.
Promising signs, some worrying signs but pretty much exactly what I expected from him. A difficult game/scenario to make your debut in, going 1-0 down after 45 seconds too. Not played in a month too so understandably rusty.

He's going to need time. And I said a bit earlier in this thread that having not seen him play, I looked at some of his numbers from Kyiv. And basically, they reflected how he performed tonight.

It'll be about getting that balance right about between being a bit too conservative (which I think he was tonight on those occasions that he did get skinned) and then not diving in too quickly.

Doesn't matter really you've already written him off as dreadful so you can't change your mind if he starts being a wizard.
Well when you bring in untested players like this, you would hope they have the physical assets to rely on while they get used to the game. He doesnt seem to have those which is odd.
