Might be worth a try as a LCB then if we continue with this 343. Personally I would rather see a back four we struggle with back three and there's the issue of who plays as a left wing back but maybe Frank thinks it's the only way to build attacks and create angles right now

I think we must go 4 at the back and 3 in midfield.

Branthwaite / Patterson / Mykolenko need to be in that back 4 now...we need determination, and drive there and none of the other 'fit' centre backs seems to have that along with zero confidence.

Note Coleman and Keane in the media talking about confidence...absolute jokers.

I have no idea if Nkounkou was ever the answer (neither Carlo nor Benitez seemed to think so) but it is so reckless and unprofessional for a supposedly top flight club to enter the second half of the season with our only recognised senior left-back a kid who has just arrived from Ukraine. According to Transfermarkt our next recognised left-back on the books is 15 years old!

Even though money is tight there must've been an out of favour left back from a European league we could've brought in on loan to backup Mykolenko. Deciding just to wing it with Godfrey as an out of position backup is the sort of reckless risk you should not be taking in a massive relegation battle.

If we had kept Nkounkou then he could have played left wing back with Mykolenko on the left of a back 3.

It really surprised me that Nkounkou wasn't recalled in January.
I always feel that there is a risk of players being forgotten about with a heavy turnover of managers.

See Ancellotti's reaction to Garbutt.

It may be that we were not able to recall players but also I think FL has already a big job managing the players currently at the club without others who probably would not even get on the team.

Nkonkou is better staying and playing in Belgium and can come back for pre season with a lot of football played and the manager can assess him properly then.
Ellis Simms is also probably gaining from playing first team football every week.
