2022/23 Vitalii Mykolenko

Myko is boss in my eyes. Proper grafter of a defender.

But sure, let’s blame him for our attacking woes because he’s not Leighton Baines incarnate. I’d rather point the finger at some the utterly useless forwards and attacking midfielders the last few games then start blaming our left back for not carrying the entire creative burden of the team on his shoulders.

He defends well, and passes it to someone in blue, what else do you want from a left back?

It seems like the entire game plan for the last 20 years has been to get to the left back to swing into the box. It’s lazy, it just shows we’ve not had teams that can break through the lines of an opposition.

We didn’t play this way in 2014 under Martinez, we didn’t play this way under Ancelotti either, arguably our two best periods since Moyes left.

In a way I’m glad Mykolenko isn’t the best crosser of a ball. Might mean someone at Everton finally asks a midfielder to pick a forward pass or a winger to crate something themselves rather than this safety first negative backwards passing, all shuffle forward, then hope the left back pulls off a worldie cross. Stupid way of playing that we’ve done for far too long because we had two players in Baines and Digne who were very good at it.

Yes, it's a massive boost to the others.

Brands last 'contribution' to the club was to hack away at the academy and 'streamline' it.
Must do something analysing the damage the man did.

Robinson, Bowler, Lookman, Vlasic and Kean.

All lads who given the right developmental pathway and support in achieving it, could have added huge options to our current squad and inertia in terms of creativity and attacking we find ourselves in, we've been short in those lines and positions at one point or another and we had them all in hand then Brands went looking in the bush for the Bernards of this world.

We need one attacking full-back, one defensive full-back.

Normally that's Patterson and Myko but until he's back I'd rather we used Holgate and Vinagre.

Might work if we had wide players who could come inside but Gordon and Gray are resembling headless chickens this season. I’d put a number ten in and keep those two hugging the touch lines putting crosses in for DCL until they remember how to play football again. We’ll just keep getting caught on the transition if we play overlapping full backs because the midfield and wingers couldn’t link a daisy chain at the moment

Robinson = average
Bowler = playing in Greece, couldn't even get in the Forest side
Lookman = playing well for his 15th club
Vlasic = Torino???
Kean = lol

Lookman and Vlasic are odd ones aren’t they. Looked like they had all the gifts to be good players and it’s probably natural it didn’t work out at Everton but both the bf ailed again at Leipzig, West Ham, and Leicester, three clubs pretty good at developing talent. Maybe it wasn’t all Everton for these two.

Its one of my gripes with the club in terms of philosophy mate Brands was particularly poor at it. Invest in young players, then dont develop them the get hacked off and leave, ultimately leading to missed oppurtuites, unbalanced squads and the wrong age profile, there was no actual point. Both went on to play and sign for PL clubs who were in better positions then us and clock up big transfer/loan fees. TBH i wouldn't turn my nose up at either at the moment.

Bowler and Robinson both have gone on to sign for PL clubs mere seasons after we let them go, its not good enough. We arent in a position either squad wise or financially to be doing that. We often talk about huge waste just on transfers, but we are really poor and wasteful in maximizing and cultivating our young investments and players, Brands was particularly poor.

Got to be dropped today he's crap
