2022/23 Vitalii Mykolenko

Highlights the lack of joined up thinking.

What system/role was he signed for?

He clearly wasn't an attacking wing back.

If we are playing a flat back four he'd be ok, and McNeil ahead makes sense but we are playing wingbacks which suits neither. That is £40m combined on players that don't fit into roles. You could perhaps convert both, Myko as a LCB and McNeil as LWB, but why sign players who need that much work?

The only player signed so far that fits this annoying system is Coady.

…I think he was signed before Lampard came in with his WB formation.

No one's scapegoating him. People are just saying he's struggling a bit in this new formation.

Struggling defensively? Or offensively? The former he has been sound with in my opinion. The latter is not his forte, in my opinion again. But if we're expecting him to wang crosses in week in, week out then we need someone to cross for, not the hobbits we have currently. (Realise that we've just bought a midget forward!!)

100%

It's very odd.

Mkyo clearly has a good cross, comfortable getting forward as we saw from that goal he scored yet he's barely getting over the half way line.

McNeil doesn't have a right foot at all, so he's not a cut inside winger and have the fullback overlap so him and Myko don't really compliment each other at all.

I can only assume that if DCL was fit, Gordon would be on the left, because we all know how much he loves to cut inside, McNeil would be in the middle. That would give Mkyo the chance to get ahead and offer more attacking support.
