His improvement in the attack should also be credited to McNeil who switches position most times Myko moves forward.

….and his defensive improvement is lots to do with Branthwaite. The number of times he’s able to cover and sweep up behind Mykolenko shouldn’t be underestimated, indeed it’s how he picked up his injury yesterday.

it reinforces how much ‘blend’ is an important ingredient in building a team. Players who compliment each other.

As one of his critics, Mykolenko’s form is fantastic and long may it continue.

Said this on here in summer. Gray was so detrimental to his game as he didn’t do the defensive side and was rarely willing to pass when Myko overlapped.

Myko was decent for large parts of last season but was essentially isolated and would often have a winger and an overlapping full back to deal with.

It's now completely fine now if a forward ends up running one on one with either centre back on a wide channel because both Tawko and Branthwaite dominate those situations most of the time. This massively frees up the rest of the team to attack. Compare to having Keane as CB and it's the polar opposite. Solid defense is the key to everything in football. We also have central midfielders who are quick and cover a lot of ground.

Where he has improved immensely are his recovery tackles. The guy is a bit of a gambler on the defensive side and will try to cut out things early. There were a few times this season where he made a questionable decision and got caught ball watching afterwards. He has gotten much better with his focus, and credit to him he has looked like Superman lately. Especially yesterday

Heres to hoping that article about him being injured his whole Everton career(up until after this season started) is true, and that combined with him now being more comfortable with the league means he has reached a new floor and will continue to play at this level or above. Would be so nice to solve one of our fullback issues so we can just focus on other areas.

The backline is working so well, really nice balance in there so excellent timing to have Coleman back as another talker.

That's why I couldn't really understand Dyche taking out Coady so early in his tenure last year as that certainly upset the balance of a unit that was keeping some clean sheets at the time.

Branthwaite certainly isn't getting dropped anytime soon if he stays fit so that's progress at least.
