2024/25 Vitalii Mykolenko

Feel like he picks up alot of injuries each season now, definately an area we need to bring in so can fight for the starting spot
It’s not as if he’s much cop when he plays— he definitely needs replacing and Young can replace him for the Derby game if he’s not fit and Young kept Salah quiet in the second half of the 2-0 win over Liverpool in last years Derby.

As much as many don’t rate him which I don’t really get (as he is generally a solid defender) going to be a big miss for the team especially when we think about who replaces him.

Hopefully it’s not too serious.

It’s 2025 and full backs need to be more than “generally a solid defender”. We need a better left back.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t want to improve. We should want to improve every single position on the pitch. That doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be a big miss in the next games when the replacement is Ashley Young.

He was signed to fit a defensive set up of which the manager then got sacked. Then Lampard didn’t seem to know how to tactically set the team up. Then Dyche went back to the defensive set up.

I personally feel he can offer more offensively (as his stats pre Everton would suggest he can). But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look to improve if we can. (But it’s not as burning a priority for me compared to a few other positions).

Honestly I think he’s improved a fair bit under Moyes but overall I think he’s one of the poorest left backs in the league .

As was said earlier seems to do ok when he’s man to man on someone , Salah stands out , but in 2025 any kind of side with ambition would be passing on him pretty quickly .
Has more freedom on the pitch since Moyes, but you can see his limits going forward. Defensively he had some very terrible mistakes this season, but overall in normal shape he's one of the better in this aspect in the league. The sad truth is still he's probably our full back in the club, as we have an aging Young, always injured Coleman and Patterson. O Brien does a good job as a RB, but you can see he's a CB, a menace at set pieces tho.

I'm a big Myko fan and think we will only miss him when he is gone. I think we underrate him, he has been given a license to go forward now and his end product is improving. Dont get me wrong we do need another left back in the summer to challenge him.
I dont think he deserves to be called injury prone, he has played 29 games so far this season, 34 last and 35 the season before.
It would not surprise me if we have to fend off some interest in him this summer.
Just for some perspective Transfer Market have him as the joint 11th most valuable left back in the Premier League at £28m. Would you sell him for that? I'm not sure I would....
