Has never been the case. He has always been able to get forward but has more or less always chosen the safe backward diagonal inside pass when in a position to cross. Whether this is due to him seeing a lack of attacking options in the box to hit is a distinct possibility but the statement that FB's were never allowed forward is simply not true.I think he is all right too mate. His numbers from his previous club and internationally reinforce that. Coming to a basket case club that plays negative anti-football where the fullbacks are expected to stay in their half will impact that.
If you watch him, he gets up and down the pitch plenty and overlaps more than people give him credit for because he doesn’t always get used.
Under Lampard (when he was playing with an injury) he had gray ahead of him who was very selfish.
No. Moyes likes a leftback capable of contributing more in attack and always has done. Even when he shunted Lescott over to LB all those years ago it wasn't for him to sit and defend.I think Moyes will love this lad. A proper defender.

Leftback will be a position he's insisting on changes to, not just a backup option. Myko is the backup in Moyes' eyes.
After Doucs probably our poorest player this season, I just hope Baines can get the best out of him, has improved the last couple of games tbf so I haven't given up on the lad.I think Moyes will love this lad. A proper defender.
True what you say about him wanting defensive capability but that's when it's a choice between the two. I can't see Mykolenko ever offering both which is where I'm coming from when questioning whether Moyes will necessarily love him. We’ll see. Obviously if we can get an improvement that can attack much better and defend to the same level then that’s great but the whole reason Lescott was at leftback in the first place was because Moyes didn’t think Baines was ready from a defensive point of view. Same with Coleman when he was playing right wing, he had Hibbert behind him (who lets face it was pretty poor offensively yet played loads for Moyes).
Moyes will demand the defensive basics first of any fullback. It’s why he’s often gone with CBs at full back. If he was looking for offensive edge he’d be starting Patterson but instead he’s picking OBrien there.
He had potentially two of the best attacking fullbacks in Europe at one point with Baines and Coleman but both had to earn their way into the team over a length of time above more defensive minded options so I don’t see Moyes just dropping what limited money we have on a more attacking left back.
I don’t think Moyes buys or plays Lucas Digne for example. He was good going forward (although nowhere near Baines) but just never kept the door shut at the back. He’s not always starting for Villa either. Teams can take not scoring from every attack from their fullback but they will not accept balls coming in from their flank that should be blocked or being done on transition when the fullback is out of position. Probably why Arsenal and City have moved towards centrebacks playing in those positions.
I’ve said this before but I don’t think moyes necessarily loved hibbert as a player, it was more a case of him being ‘worth’ more to Everton than he ever would have been in the open market, and so the opportunities to trade up were limited. I don’t think he’s necessarily the prototype of a moyes full back, he was just a functional PL player who was free at a time when we had no money.True what you say about him wanting defensive capability but that's when it's a choice between the two. True about Hibbert though and I was thinking the same with Neville who got a good few games at RB from what I can remember. Does seem to prefer more of an attacking threat from the left than the right for whatever reason.
I mean, yes, he could get forward, but dyches tactics like his fullbacks to stay back and narrow. Obviously they can and did go forwards at times but that’s not what Dyche set them up to do.Has never been the case. Either way, still a position that needs improvement / options as he's a rotation/fresh legs option at best in a decent squad.
