Confirmed Signing Vitaliy Mykolenko

Mykolenko is a smarterscout young prospect, so our algorithm expects him to play at a higher level. And if Digne were staying, then having a 22yo come in eventually to succeed a 28yo would make sense. But it's not clear that Mykolenko is ready now.

Basically, this is a sensible deal if it's looking towards a future Digne sale. It's not at all a sensible deal if it's replacing Digne now (which there is no need to do).

So he passes sideways and backwards more than Digne.

Whatever.

The fact remains the owner is backing the manager. It’s all in if Digne goes which seems very likely.

Benitez aside, Everton still need to sell players for actual wonga. We need to freshen th3 squad and whoever is in charge will probably require one or more of our better players moving on to generate cash. That is a normal process in football. The fact it stopped at Everton is causing us all FFP problems.

Even at our peak we sold players. Linever was sold at his peak, Andy Gray was sold etc. It’s only recently that this process ha# been severed.
Again, I'm happy to say that the club needs to sell players. But in the middle of the season it's a huge risk, to go with two young players, one who is new to the league (which frankly at £17m I'm sorry, seems awfully steep) and the other a right-footed CB playing out of position (and it shows).

It is clear there is a rift between Digne and RB , none of us know the real reason why.
The manager said Digne was to be in the team against Chelsea but opted out, again we don't know the real story behind that either.

However, it hardly seems like the relationship between player and manager is pointing towards a good working relationship for the remainder of the season.

It is hard to sign good players in January, so if their differences are irreconcilable then it is a good time to sell as clubs search to strengthen their squads

Where that will leave our squad remains to be seen.

But a player who won't play isn't much use.
No he didn't tbf. He said Digne said he was ill, so he was not available. That's not Digne 'opting out', that's a player not being able to train the day before a game so he was not included. Benitez tried to play politics, as he does, instead of just saying he was ill. Well, Rondon, Delph and Gray are also all ill. So clearly, it isn't a lie.

The player should play because he is the only natural option we have in the position and he happens to be very good, albeit going through rough form, not helped by the manager. A manager who insisted 'the team comes first' but then proved that is only the case for others and not himself.

I don't mind signing this lad, he could be a good player. But we do not need a left-back and should not need a left-back and the priority singing should not be a left-back, especially a 22-year-old from Dynamo Kyiv for £17m, when we are so desperate in other areas of the pitch.

how much would we get for Iwobi and Gbamin now?
Well we know Iwobi wasn't his signing - Joobriachan got Moshiri in on it as his sweetner for missing out on Zaha.

Brands clearly should have been stronger in saying no and putting his foot down. He was with Zaha (and I like Zaha), but not with Iwobi.

Gbamin, yeah it hasn't worked out so far has it, it probably won't do. But is it Brands' fault he was totally mismanaged by Silva, got an injury that was then mismanaged by the medical team, and then got two totally freak injuries? No, it's not, only an idiot would say it was. The fault that lies with Brands for that signing is that it wasn't done ahead of time when we knew Gana was going to go.

I'm blaming him for both. He didn't resign over Iwobi, and it certainly wasn't a Silva signing, he had the opportunity to put his foot down and manifestly didn't take it.there are also big question marks over whether Juve come through with their fee for KEAN, if they don't that's another thirty down the plughole. And Mina is on over a hundred gs a week here, if nobody matches that he stays here and leaves for nothing in 18 months, so there's another thirty gone.

I agree, except Digne is not going to play for the club again.

we've lost millions, sometimes tens of millions on every one of his signings. He was utterly dreadful.
That’s not true though is it? He’s had some clunkers like Iwobi. Mina we’d probably make our money back. Doucoure is worth what we paid. Gray we’d probably 15x our investment. Digne we got some good years and will still be well compensated when he leaves. Biggest issues for me was because he spent big on a couple flops, we didn’t have the funds to fill actual needs like right back, central midfield depth, etc.
