I might be wrong (I was in shock watching it) but I thought that was him misunderstanding the question. I thought they were asking whether he'd discussed players, as in players to buy, and he replied saying yeah I know players like Baines etc... As I say though, I can't claim that I was taking it in properly at the time.
It was clear that the producer was in the reporter's ear just saying keep this guy on the phone for as long as you possibly can this is absolute gold. And boy did he do it.
Definitely no indication that he's pulled out of the job judging by that.
