Had a name for dour football but was a decent man. He recommended Moyes as his replacement which wasn't a bad shout. RIP..

Always found him as a decent guy, looked upon up here even from many of the celtic side of the city as just that.
Humorous at times but also had that old school brutalness about him as a manager.

Sad news. Came in at a difficult time but largely managed to steer us away from the sort of horrible experience we had on the final day of the 97/98 season. History hasn't been very kind to his time with us, but he's a long way from the worst we've had. While they weren't great seasons, I think he did OK with what he had... plus he brought in Davie Weir and Super Kev, and even had the grace to suggest his successor. RIP, Walter.

A sad passing. He inherited a very weak Everton side and deserved a better platform for his managerial talent...... He always came across as very humble, gentlemanly and respectful. RIP Walter.
