Was it all that bad? Top 5 changes worth retaining from Roberto's years

There are a few things about Martinez' three years which were undeniably good, don't you think?
Of course it was time for change, but here are my top 5 good ideas I hope we don't lose.

1) Fearlessness against top teams. Apart from against Liverpool, we conquered the fear of big teams, and had some really memorable wins against Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal in particular.
at home under moyes we regulary beat the "big teams" 1 win against a united team that was losing to everyone at home dosent mean we were fearless

2) Martinez attracted some surprisingly good players to EFC, who seemed to come for him, the style and the idea of what we wanted to do. Even if they might not have worked out long term, think Eto'o, Lukaku, Barry, Geri
Cant really argue against this one, although eto'o was a 'mare" in reality

3) A playing culture throughout the system, from youth to the first teams, was apparently put into place, getting them playing in a particular way.
A playing culture that blatantly dosent cover the hard working/defensive side of football

4) Promoting young players, most of the time. Although at the end it was a bit crazy when the excellent U21s were not getting selected ahead of injured or out of position seniors, having blind faith in Barkley, Stones & Lukaku must have given them confidence (and a bit of complacency too)
As you noted, alot of the young kids should of been goven a go but never did, think dowell & davies. Also i think giving the likes of Barkley and Stones such prominant roles in the team has hindered them more than help them. Made them undroppible and we relied on them to much were young kids have dips in form we couldnt pull them out for a rest. Fergies kids that came through all came through but in "less important" roles in the team such as on the wings or full back were schmeichel, bruce, pallister, keane & cantona held pivotol possitions until the kids were ready
5) Loads of English & British players...we might have almost had 5 players in the England squad, and a good core set of other British lads
Dosent matter if they are from nirobi, Tom Cleverley is english and he's pants

I like what he did with Unsy, Big Dunc and other blue-blooded players behind the scenes, and two semi finals is not bad! I hope that some of the good things Roberto did are not ripped up

Up for debate that mate, Walter was a joke but he never had anything like the money Martinez had.
Walter however didn't have a first season like Martinez, which will some may rightfully contribute to other factors, was a pretty glorious time.

For me, Martinez has to be fairly acknowledged for luring the likes of Rom and Deulofeu and showing we can play some really attractive football.

The problem was that there wasn't the sensible balance of defence or any form of fitness. Ronald will work on those and make us a better team.

2 Seasons of mostly garbage following on from a great first season.

Hull away on New Years Day in his second season was the point it became glaringly obvious he'd lost the dressing room, and I don't think he ever fully got it back. The players lost respect for him, as they'd become disenchanted at his training methods and tactics.

His demise was drawn out, the derby at the pit last season should have seen him binned.

Can't argue with that. There were a lot of positives.

We may never know everything that went on. The signing of Eto'o seemed to be the start of the problems. He also got the fitness badly wrong in seasons 2 & 3 too.

Walter Smith didn't have a team like Martinez did when he first walked into the club, he's also the last Everton manager to win at Castle Grayskull :(which wins him a few brownie points for me. Both awful manager's I'd agree but picking one is like choosing which shade of s#it Is worse!

I think he will ultimately be remembered and viewed as one of the worst we have had. The total loss of the fans and the players was something I hope not to see again in my lifetime.

If he'd have done the honourable thing and walked (after the derby) he might of had a chance of being remembered for the snippets of good that some people may argue and highlight.
