The most significant of all time was that of WR Dean in 1925 from Tranmere Rovers for £30.

This. The greatest goalscorer this country has ever had. Unparalleled. His name is still universally known in this city 33 years after his death and 85 years since he broke records.
But I understand the OP's point. As far as unheralded signings go, Super Kev was special

Kev really did change us. I hate to think where we'd be without him.

P.Nev and Cahill both got the applause but we need one for Super Kev.
