"Watch Classic Matches Again"

What a horrible week that was. My big bro took me to the MonchenGladbach / Panathinaikos games at Goodison but he went the Old Trafford one on his own. He came home and went straight to bed I recall.
Apologies for the bad memories Jacob, but all part of our rich tapestry I suppose:)

Oddly, wasn't too upset about the Greeks ... couldn't see us beat Ajax anyway. The F A Cup was a different matter: Morrissey covered in blood, Labone off injured and Whittle thinking he was Pele instead of passing to an unmarked Bally for an (almost) certain two nil lead.

From champions with 66 points to 14th with 37. Utter bloody shambles.

I remember Joe Royle saying when Labby went off injured,Wilf Dixon who was in charge as Catterick was ill put Sandy Brown at centre back,we were leading at that point, unfortunately Sandy couldn't handle Toshack's aerial threat and they scored two,Joe reckoned he should have dropped back to centre half to combat Toshack, all ifs and buts, but who knows?

I remember that week in 1971 I had to work 18 hour days in Havant Hants, just to pay bills as usual(some things still haven't changed). Our digs didn't have a telly, we relied on the papers the next day for footie results, so for the first time since 1953 I had to go to bed not knowing how Everton got on, in a European Cup Quarter Final! The next morning didn't make me feel any better reading the Mirror, but the amazing thing was
The Sun went to print that night and didn't carry the midweek matches.
Yes! 1971 was a bad year for Everton, but not everything was bad for our supporters, when watching football film clips of that year, the greats
Pele and Eusebio, Pat Jennings, Alan Ball all celebrating marvellous goals. But the greatest celebration of all was by a 10 stone, skinny, long haired fella, wriggling around on his back after scoring the winner at the Wembley F.A. Cup Final.
Take a bow Charlie George.

Ha ha yeah, anyone else as a little snotty school kid rip their knees to shreds and their kecks imitating Charlies celebration against the RSlol

Oh Lord, MORE PAIN.

My first introduction the away goals rule and spent years after bemoaning how we were robbed of winning the EC by mathematics.

I've come to terms with it now like.

I once asked Harvey about it. Asked why we went into our shells. When lab one went off. He said he didn't feel they did, RS just stepped it up and we couldn't respond.
Sorry nearly going off thread. Kick off time was while school was still on iirc. Walked home fearing the worst having heard the players had been kept up all night by Greek fans. We threw it away in first game when should have won by six but still hard done by in second leg I think over a pen we should have had. Dodgy refs then too.
Brill first half on the Saturday, world fell apart in the second. School on Monday....... Omg. Gave a lot back when they lost to arsenal which was quite sweet and went down well with those fair minded young kopites!!! Teacher had threatened never to pick me for school team again if I went to the match instead of playing!!! Them were the days haha.
