Watches

Two of my mates have the same Rolex and on the way to a stag do a couple of years ago they must have talked about them for over an hour. I couldn’t wait to get out of the car.

One refers to it as his ‘Rolo’.
Please tell me they were constantly asking eachother what time it was, so they could look at their watches ?

Was thinking of treating myself to a new watch, not sure if to go with a known name like Tag Longines or an up and coming brand like Christopher Ward. The likes of Rolex and Omega are out of my price range about £3000, was wondering is any of you watch enthusiast have other ideas.
A mobile phone gives me the time now......the watches you list are for the classy collectible markets great investments for the future with the paperwork Provence kept - an auction house maybe your best bet..beware there are so many fakes around ......

My Omega Seamaster 300 is without one of the best things I’ve ever bought mate.

Worth nearly a grand more than I paid for it too.

Had it for over 15 yrs now and bar a couple of services and a few bust links it’s as good now as when I bought it.
Can I ask.....when was the last time you took it to 1000 feet underwater?

Way back when, I strapped my good old Casio G-Shock around a rung in the bridge of USS Florida, and it repeatedly went deeper than 800 feet (exact depth classified) and was out for a good month and a half. Worked like a champ after surfacing. Outside of that, the deepest it ever went was about 80 feet when I dove with it.

Why would anyone want a fake watch? Seriously. What pleasure do you get out of it? Do you look at the watch and try and convince yourself it's the real deal, when really you're just kidding yourself? Are you trying to fool others? I just don't get it. It's the same with fake clothes.

There are some good fakes out there admittedly but most fakes are not worth anymore than a Timex watch, in terms of components.

does that ever lose time?
Is that a day date presidential? I'm assuming it's either yellow or pink?
Sorry to disappoint, it was a joke. I don't own a Presidential. I thought the second part of my post made it pretty clear.

If I'm ever rich enough, that'd be the watch for me though, and it would be a day/date. I thought the day/date was known as the Presidential@toffee_laura

I'll let you know if I ever own one @nsno-chris

There you go, @carlos21 , my favourite watch is a Rolex day/date aka Presidential. I'm unlikely to ever own one, mind.

I like citizen, quality watch in my opinion, and at the extreme low end of the luxury watch which the price reflects. This is the one I'm using now.s-l1600.webp

What is the difference between a mid-range watch and a high-range; mechanical wise?

I always thought it was the metals etc but shows how little I know.

The workings inside lad, a cheaper watch can loose minutes per day. The "glass" is a major difference too mineral crystal V sapphire crystal, you won't be long scratching the mineral crystal to bits on your mid range watches. Here's the workings of luxury v cheaper watches.

If you want a daily watch for reasonable price you can't beat one of these or similar..

A bit more flash..

I like my diver watches by the way!

If you buy a good watch it’ll earn more than putting it in the bank , certainly given the last few months more than shares or any ISA and it looks decent on your arm plus it’s something you choose. Property would be a better investment but in the vast majority of cases you aren’t going to buy a house for the same one off price , it can be a really decent investment and pretty much won’t lose you any money .

also and I suspect most importantly it’s their money to do with as they choose isn’t it
There's very few watches or brands that will appreciate. A lot of watch values have been ruined now due to people being able to buy a £3500 omega or £7000 Rolex on 0% finance. It means sales have rocketed and resale values have dropped. The only watches worth investing in now are seriously expensive limited number ones. And in that region of price you could well but a house..
