Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

If the rumours that we have switched to Klassen are true due to changing our mind on Rooney, then can't say I disagree on today's showing, looked every bit a player with 16 years of playing top flight games in his legs.

Easy to forget that really. He's been playing since he was 16 in the first team and probably non-stop really since like 17/18. At the highest level.
I've no doubt he has the brains, just a case of whether his legs really have gone.

How many of us said after he left that he will burn out?

He reminded me today of both Barry and Jagielka at times this season - mind willing body willing, just not able to actually run the way he's needed anymore, two particular moments stood out when he basically tried to cover defensively and ended up sliding for a tackle whilst the opponent was already 5 yards away from him.

This doesn't look like something that getting his love for the game back by coming here will fix, not about motivation or anything else, it's just his legs look to have gone completely under him.

Much rather remember him for those moments with us like the Bolton game and the goal against Arsenal than watching the current version

It's not only the years of playing, or even his lifestyle not being exactly the best for lasting into your 30's, it's also playing on through injuries for United and getting injected with painkillers - he lost something permanently after that season (his explosiveness and a lot of pace), all combined he looks done at anything close to top level now.

I've always been a Rooney follower but that ship has sailed.

I have no doubt he will return to the club in some capacity in the future but please not as a player.
