Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

It's mad how people can't see that how different the Rooney of today is than the Rooney of 5 years ago.

..he's clearly not the player he was. It can't help at his age, though, that he's not getting regular game time. I'm accepting your point but perhaps he still has something to offer even playing regular bit parts on and off the bench.

There's a big difference between Everton 'going for' a transfer target, and them actually being in our squad come the new season.
If Rooney is in our ranks come August then it would be a good thing, especially if he's only one of a number of new attacking players.

I'm not bothered about Iheanacho. I think he might go the same way as previous Man City benchwarmers like Bony and Negredo. Think we could do better.

If we sign Rooney then I just think it makes us look like total mugs.

Whisper it but he's finished.

That's genuinely worse than Oumar Niasse's YouTube compilation that included him scoring an own goal.

It's the 'assists' that did it for me....pearoller passes a couple of feet away to a player 20-30 yards out who then slaloms into the area and scores.....I don't even remember 3 quality assists there

I totally accept the point that Rooney clearly isn't the player he was, maybe even a couple of years ago

What I would say is that Rooney, right throughout his career, has always struggled for form and match fitness when not playing regularly. He usually starts a season very slowly relative to other players because of the summer break.

His fleeting appearances for United this season cannot possibly have helped the situation. If we ended up signing him, I'd expect to see his form at least slightly improved on what he has shown this season if he was playing regularly.

Not advocating signing him, my opinion on that changes every day, just a point. He also, somehow, looks to me like he has lost weight this season

It's bad enough having Jeffers back at the club and if we waste money paying Rooney any wages I for one won't be contributing via the turnstile.
Sign Rooney and it's a sign of our ambition which will be to avoid finishing any lower than 17th.

This is indeed also the answer to the Jose Baxter question....

Simply...

Why?

Signing Wayne Rooney shows that we only have ambition of avoiding relegation?

Either a lot of wind up merchants in this thread or a lot of lead in the water in some areas.

Rom is staying until Jan to see how we shape up...half due to lack of suitors, half due to the fact that Rooney is coming to play upfront/just behind/ make some bullets/spread the load for the markers.

...Or not.
