Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Can't understand some of the negativity on here in the last few pages. Think tonight's game proved it was men against boys. We need more big game players, whether rooney can still deliver I don't know. But our best bet at the moment of getting one hope he comes back soon

He's clearly not the same player who scored goals for fun 5 or 6 years ago, but for a nominal fee, Rooney would give us extra squad depth and some guaranteed quality.
I'm watching Ajax v Utd here and its the first time I've seen them and Dolberg, who many posters mention as their dream signing. He's done sweet FA all game and just got subbed. The premier league is littered with strikers who turn out to be expensive flops.

Martial £36m
Andy Carrol £35m (LOL)
Benteke £32m
Shevchenko £30m
Robinho £32

Of course I hope Steve Walsh has some tricks up his sleeve and we sign some players I've never heard of and they turn out to be brilliant. But for a cheap squad filler, Rooney would be near perfect.

He's not going to be a cheap squad filler though with his wage packet. If he turns out to be great for us, fine. If he's past it we've wasted a lot of money on wages that we could have used to try enticing other players to the club.

We spend a lot less on wages than the teams above us already. If we get him and it turns out badly it'll stop us from making 1 or 2 other signings that might have had a bigger impact on the team.

Signing him is a big risk on the wages we'll be paying him. I don't know wether he'll be any good or not but I think he's going to be a shadow of his former self if he comes back, imo.

What a way to see out the last few years of Goodison park with one of our returning and leading us back to where we belong. It'b be like a fairy tale.

If he does sign for us he'll be taking a massive pay cut. Yes he'll be in line with our top earners but we're shifting a fair amount of dead wood so there's room for a few big earners to join the ranks.

he may be 31 but he has the physique of a 41 yr old darts player and more miles on the clock than a 1990 ford escort. his past goalscoring record has nothing to do with it.

Maybe but who would u think would be more of a threat coming off the bench to score against any of the current top 6. Rooney or dcl? Because its not exactly true that top players are knocking down the door to sign for us. I take rooney 7 days if the week.

True.

It all just comes down to how good he is. I hope he's still got some of that magic if\when he comes back.
