I wouldn't say that, you can't judge a player on 1 performance. But it does show how difficult it is to predict how well someone from a weaker league will cope with the demands of the premier league and playing against top opposition.

He destroyed Celta in a group game, and absolutely tore Lyon apart first semi game, scored and looked very good in the second as well.

Lyon especially would beat the majority of Prem teams including us.

Take any of a dozen games for Lukaku this as a measure of his ability in this league and you'd reckon he would be useless, that's what happens when you get no service whatsoever as a striker.

Hope that we go in massively for him and that other teams just use the United game as their barometer on him and dont bid.

If he comes for a nominal fee and 100K a week, we recoup that in about 5 minutes through shirt sales, upping our global profile (you can guarantee opening weekend regardless of who we play we are on TV, plus probably 2-3 more times than we usually are) And we need a bigger squad, doesn't hurt to have people in your team with Europe experience if we did progress in the EL etc
If on the other hand he is 20M fee and 200K a week, it doesn't make much business sense to me, but I think i would trust Moshiri's judgement to write that cheque, he's not going to do it for an emotional attachment the supporters may / may not have

I would love to see Wayne Rooney in an Everton shirt again. Glorious. I think the club have made him an offer and his commnt 'they are the only two clubs I will play for' could be a good clue. Welcome him back!

I think it's been alluded to before that currently we will make very little extra money off increased shirt sales. Any money to be made out of image rights will go ,as they always have straight into 'traitor enterprises' and not Everton. Added to that with his England career over his face will definitely disappear off the cover of FIFA et al and interest in his career will diminish as he enters his dotage with us.

Rooney is a big swerve for me. He's given his best years to another club and good for him. It was the right decision to go to a job that best enriched him. His duty/responsibility is now to go to China (if he can earn more than he currently is).
Coming to Everton would be an abnegation of his paternal responsibility. I hope his wife is reminding him that.

I haven't seen him play at all (apart from his non existent appearance against united) but yeah, he certainly sounds like the flavour of the month. I'm sure there will be lots of top sides testing Ajax's resolve and if Steve Walsh thinks he's the man for us, I hope we go in for him too. We'll need to get another striker in as well as Rooney, as Wayne doesn't really play up front anymore.

I have to ask the question. You could say Rooney's slow, (which im not sure he is, just not quick), I get that.

I don't see Rooney as lazy. He tries but it's not enough now. I could try & knock Anthony Joshua out & lose badly. Then try again the week later & still fail. Sometimes trying hard isn't enough. The ability to do the job required is there bare minimum however.

Well, for reasons I've expounded above, I don't see it that way. He's a long time retired from football so will have plenty of time to spend time with his family and mates in the NW then.
While he has the ability to earn BIG bucks, his duty is to do that. Being presently financially comfortable does not enter the equation. It's all to do with the future and the better off he can make his kids, their kids, their kids etc etc the better.
