Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

I admittedly wasn't around when he left. But I can't see how it hurts our brand (while tossing money about) to have a worldwide-known face on the side. Will we get the football value out of him? Maybe not. Will the club, on the verge of turning a big corner, reap benefits of the narrative of having him back? Likely.

The 2003 10 year old version of me can't help but be excited about him returning regardless of how well he performs its just going to be special to see the player you idolized as a kid back in the blue shirt once again.

I really hope he has a similar reaction to Torres returning to Atletico, how many people wrote Torres off as finished at the time of his move. The fans embraced him back at the club and it completely reinvigorated him, obviously not the player he once was but far more useful than many people expected and that's what i want Rooney to be for us.

Regardless of if it works on the pitch though it will do us great from a marketability stand point and also be great for the younger players to see an example of someone who has done the journey they are setting out on.

Be interesting to see what number he takes, would like to see him back in the 18 again but would mean Gaz Baz giving it up, other than that only think 7, 15, 19 are available in the lower numbers

Number 9?

I think the narrative going around in many people's minds (at least in twitter) is that everton are taking on an over hill former star who can no longer get on the team at man u and we are paying 150k a week for it. Not flattering for us at all. It think it's really only some Evertonians who have put on rose tinted glasses and seen the romantic ' boy comes home' story line and think it's fantastic.

Could be. I'm not in the UK, I'm in the states. Here, we love this kind of stuff, regardless of how it turns out. For example, long before Everton found me, I had a pal who was a loyal United fan (quite loyal by US standards for the time). He's probably responsible for getting me into the PL, and his dog is named Rooney. That's the level of clout he has (or had) here. If he can be of any value at all, I think it'll play well abroad. Combine that with upgrades all over the pitch, and I support it. But I do so with the caveat of having not been involved in the split.

I think its fantastic.

I think hes got a LOT to prove, the only thing in his way is a rapidly failing body.

I would rather look at it with rose tinted glasses than get myself all in a tizz over it, lifes way to short to pick holes in EVERYTHING.

I could have taken or left him to be honest, but its happening, so I will do what I do with every new signing and support it, judge them them on how they perform for us. With Rooney its different, we watched him burst on the scene, we watched him leave, we watched the badge kissing, we watched him break records for club and country and we watched him win everything there is to win.

And now hes coming back, not at his peak, but right when everything tells you hes done, but thats where the romance comes in, hes 1 of us, despite his many "faults", he never stopped supporting the blues, sure thats not enough, hes gonna have to perform, will he perform? Only time will tell, but till then im gonna be happy we have signed somebody that at 1 point, not a million years ago, somebody that was the best Striker in the league.

Rooney, Rooney, Rooney.

If you asked any team if they wanted a 31 year old player who is their nation and club's all time leading goal-scorer on a free transfer, there are very very few who would refuse it. Don't let the name 'Rooney' put you off.

True that, on a free as well, were actually quite lucky, you could spend good money on a player with less remaining ability and zero commercial value

This is a new Everton, even from last season this is basically going to be a new side. You bring in someone like him who is experienced, is a winner, a leader and someone that a lot of the other players will look up to I think will be a positive.

He is 31, not 35 and we only need 1-2 good seasons out of him to make this deal a success.

I wasnt too high on Rooney coming back at first but, to be honest, the whole argument that hes over the hill and didnt produce much last season at United is completely false. Rooney had 5 goals and 5 assists in 1500 minutes of play, because he did not get many opportunities to start. Thats 1 every 150 minutes. How is that NOT an improvement in our squad? Consider the two players he most likely will be playing in place of. Mirallas averaged 1 per 200 minutes. Barkley also averaged one per 200 minutes.

If Rooney had played Barkley's premier league hours last season, he was on pace to score 10 goals and have 10 assists.
