Even the goal was hilariously bad defending from Arsenal. Rooney is nowhere good enough and a big test of the new manager will be having the balls to realise that.

How many times do people on this thread need to say this..... Currently, he is still one of our classiest players. Slow, yes, but we never got him in for this season because of his pace. Surround him with pace, power, and players on his wavelength, and he'll do very well for us.

Even with us in a shambles at the moment, he's still our joint-top goal scorer in the league.

His short passing was dodgy - we have no width - the team need a lot of tweaking it's going to be hard - Rooney will and should only play in patches!

He is your option as a second striker, when you’re chasing a game on 70 minutes, needing a goal, going direct and putting the ball in and around their box. Hopefully to exploit the scraps from poor clearances, knockdowns, etc. His brain still works - he saw that chance on Sunday faster than Arsenal could react. He’s not in good enough condition anymore and too static to start as a) the main striker, b) the nr 10 in a team at home that’s parked the bus, and we need to switch play fast or use width to stretch and unlock défenses, c) where we’re setup to counterattack at pace against a top side.

I do think he’s a great option as a second striker from the bench, against tiring legs and where we need a bit of fresh impetus and nouse late in a game. That’s how we should get the best out of him.

Happy Birthday Wazza, not sure why a lot of the fans fume about you! Head and shoulders the best outfield player for us so far this season. Not that that is an especially high accolade at the moment
