Didn’t want him back, haven’t been impressed since he has come back. But today he has been good. Much better playing very deep, essentially alongside gueye. Let gueye do the running and leg work, knowing rooney can do all the passing. Allows Davies the chance to burst forward more as well.

Shouldn’t have taken this many matches to drop him this deep.

Sadly we probably won't see that level for another 4 weeks. Such is Wayne these days. Flashes of brilliance but the body is not able.

I’m also pretty sure I said play him up front as he’s the only player on the books who could get us 10-12 goals a season too.

He's played 3 piss poor balls mate you are spot on. But do you know what, he's playing forward passes, playing balls that don't always come off. He ain't got the legs anymore but his vision and awareness is better than than every player on that pitch combined.
