Do think playing him in that CM role suits him, especially when he can drive from deep to that number 10 position.
However, I think it'll all depend on who's in the midfield with him. You keep Gana for how he wins the ball and pace but it's the 2nd midfielder.
Schniederlin should be perfect but he's an utter waster. Davies is more like Gana but slower.
McCarthy would work when and if he gets fit.

A big difference with Wayne deeper is he is picking the ball up and looking to take a few strides while he works out the lay of the land around him. Further up top, his instinct was to ping it backwards/sideways first-time, often when he needn't have, it all looked like there was a bit claustrophobia in his head.
Also makes sense to have him deeper because that's invariably where he'd end up when things were going bad, at least now how's not abandoning an outlet station.

He's in the midfield for us, which is fine, and he's decent, will do a job in parts, and I really still maintain hope of the dream that he finds energy and passion for his club and gets a cup with us as captain.
However, it's still a failure of recruitment, because
a) If his best position is midfielder, or attacking midfielder, then is he competing with Schneiderlin, Gana, McCarthy, Besic, Davies...? Dowell, Sigurdsoon, Klassen and Barkley as well
b) If he plays at his best when he's playing regularly, well, we're only going to use him sparingly!
I really hope it works out. A couple of great goals and good passing, as well as shouting and marshalling of the team so far.

Fair play to rhino, he found a way to get rooney and siggy in the same team, it ups the quality levels having them both function and we don't have an abundance of technique available to us, so getting them both functioning was vital. Rooney looks a real leader out there, the others look to him
