They're calling him a club legend because that is the narrative that the press push. Even the questions relating to the issue are slanted towards "get you get him to stay?"

Not to mention it's no secret that a great many of our supporters (wrongly, in my view) hold him in high esteem.

If they come in and just blow over Rooney even though they clearly have no plans for him it may rub a section of the supporters the wrong way on day one.

He spoke during the season that he was pencilled in to do some U-14 coaching next season so I presume that's what he'd return to.

I very much doubt he'd go to America and then walk into a first team coaching role.

I'm not sure, managers don't really talk about selling their player to a certain team if he's not going there.

If his top level coaching skills are going to be in such high demand then he will surely be able to take his pick from the numerous other clubs that will want to take him on as a coach, and he won't need to rely on his identity as an Evertonian in order to get himself yet another payday from the club.

Maybe Manchester United will have him back.
