We have to get back to a four man defence

This present system of three is not us and it's not that effective, as seldom do we have five at the back when we have to transition when the ball is with the opposition. It's alien to us and it's showing. We're playing it because of personnel, not because it's a tactical strength. Lampard is frustrated we dont have the people here to go with 4 at the back and 3 in midfield and said so recently.

We conceded yesterday because the players we have just cant work the system and we end up with non-defenders bundling over the opposition to hand pens and victories to them.

One game. Never change.

We wont be going to a back 4.

Also, people keep saying Coady cant play in a 2, thats not true, hes lost his place due to Wolves switching to a back 4 yes, but thats not cos he cant play in it, its simply that the manager has picked 2 people ahead of him.

I doubt Coady and Tarks would struggle in a back 4.

Thelwell isn't the coach last time I looked.

As you say, Coady can play in a back 4...and we defo know Tarky can.

The m/fs when they arrive will ensure Lampard can choose what system he wants...an option any PL manager should have.

Thelwell might not be the coach, but tell me we havent constantly gone with a back 5.

Ill take that under advisement. Until then, let me know when we concede from open play, K thanks.

It'll be interesting when / if the Kopite is signed and what he says in interview concerning where he feels he can play.

I'm hazarding a guess that he's going to say he's not concerned what system it is adopted at the back as he's comfortable in boith.

This signing would not 'reinforce a choice to go three at the back', it reflects an opportune situation where an experienced PL CB has come up for grabs on a loan and we need one to reinforce our defence. I wouldn't read into it that Lampard has consciously gone out to sign a player used to playing in a 3 at the back system. Not by a long shot.

You know what … I’ve never looked at it like that before but you’re right I’d rather a defender that can defend than a ruddy wing back who hack folks down because his defensive skills aren’t honed the way his sprinting up skills field are ..
