We need to talk about woman and football

Genuinely, couldn't care less what gender a pundit or a member of the comms team is.

So long as they're knowledgeable, are economic with words and share only things of genuine interest (ie - a subtle tactical switch the layperson may not pick up on right away) then they'll do for me.

Unfortunately, this disqualifies about 90% of those with cock and balls and probably 75% without. The men definitely talk more guff per head, but the broadcasters are trying to rush through diversity, gender and inclusion staffing measures.

Personally, If they broadcast the game without comms I'd be happy.

There’s a push to get more of women on TV sports and I think in the rush the TV companies are sacrificing on quality.
It’s the same with Sky Sports and budget cutting so we end up with Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison and Lee Hendrie on Soccer Saturday. Sue Smith probably makes more sense than the 3 of them.

Gary Neville and Spit The Dog are Sky’s main pundit duo now and some of their early performances were shocking (go back and listen to Neville when Torres scored for Chelsea at Barcelona in the Champion’s league semi final!).

The same as the sportsmans dinner speaking circuit - some ex-pro’s are good and do it naturally, some take time to hone their skills, and some like Ian Rush need to be spoon fed.

With female co-commentators and pundits, we’re just living in an age where they’re having to learn on the job.

The analysis after the game on ITV4 was shocking, not because of who was on the panel...probably. Just the incessant talking, they showed the DCL incident about 50 times and didn't show the rest of the chances. Add to that the 5 minutes of adverts (twice) and it's easy to see why I don't watch live football on TV anymore (as in actual broadcasts for the build up/post match analysis).

This.
When it started off big time for the 1970 WC, it was a novelty, it grew and grew - now it's just another symptom of the cancer, in the PL, in all football.

Football is for everyone, but I want to hear from pundits who have played at the level of the game that they are offering punditry on. Like it or not, women's football isn't that level.

Spit The Dog always makes me chuckle.

On a more controversial note, it's more irritating that there isn't a safe male space anymore for anything. You used to be able to go to the pub or social to escape the opposite sex, now they have infiltrated everything.

And if you try reciprocate and say hang around in an all female environment, like a beach volleyball or synchronised swimming changing room they get all upset and call the police... :hayee:
