Weight Loss Motivation

Some really decent stuff there by the bb man, good tips.

Im 17 stone and 6 foot 3 which is overweight, although I go the gym a few times every week Ive neglected cardio a bit so Im in there with you Senor Ghost.

Im going to get down below 16 stone by the end of May.

I'm not overwieght, but I could probably do with more muscle.

Problem is i'm far too lazy.

How many Crunches would I have to do per day to get a six pack? :P

5'5" and 60kg here. As monty said, to lose weight you just gotta burn off more than you eat. Gyms are ok for doing weights but I find doing anything aerobic takes a whole lotta motivation. Much better to get outside and run/cycle. If you gotta go somewhere, try and walk or bike it instead of driving. You'll soon burn it off.

BB's tips are spot on. A combination of eating right and excercise. If any more motivation is needed remember the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. I'm losing weight but it's a slow process. Don't make the same mistake I did and deny that weight gain is something to worry about. I was stupid then, and now I'm on medication for high blood pressure and at risk of further health problems. Please, for your own health, learn from the mistakes of others.

Im 6ft 1 and a tad under 14 st...

Want to lose weight...then go for long walks in the Mountains...Want to lose more weight ....the go for longer walks in the mountains with a heavy pack on.

The scenery is not bad either

I'm 5'9 n 15st. But not fat if you see what I mean. Big boned and stocky build. But I suppose I could do with shedding a couple of stone. But I need to motivate myself and time is a factor aswell. "SIGH"

I'm obviously kidding about the 7ft+ and 25 stone, but seriously, you need to judge your weight by your health, and take your age and daily routine into account.

I'm about 6ft tall, and the heaviest I've been was about 15 1/2 stone.
I'm medium bone size, and not skinny nor stocky, but somewhere inbetween. As a younger man ( 41 now ) I was exceptionally fit, and could run a marathon in my sleep, so cardio wise, it gave me a head start when ageing.

I hurt my back in my late twenties, and over time put extra weight on around my middle and upper body. I drive for a living now since leaving my last job through injury, so extra weight can be very dangerous for me, which was my main decision for losing the weight.

Under my clothes, I looked fine, but once I felt uncomfortable taking my top off in public, I knew I was out of shape and had to act quickly before I got older, or my injury got worse.

It's detrimental for me to go for muscle gain, as I will once again have to deal with it at a later date, so the idea is to lose as much excess fat as possible, and try to get cardiovascularly ( is that even a word ) fit again.

Weight around the stomach and back is dangerous regardless of how fit you think you are, so a little effort, possibly starting at home is worth it's weight in gold, and the feel good factor helps too.

Once you lose some weight from effort, your far less likely to put it back on again, but remember that dieting doesn't make you healthy on it's own merits.

Leave the car at home, walk the dog, go for a swim, or do simple exercises at home. You'll enjoy it. (y)

Bruce that is the best advice on here, my weight remained under control when I played golf, just three or four rounds a week made sure I walked 12/15 miles a week, not much walking but my weight remained static..............................when I eventually had to give up golf it truly spiralled out of control and I wasn't eating anything extra. Exercise bikes, rowing machines are all well and good but nothing beats walking or cycling. My pal over the road hads just started cycling and he dropped half a stone in no time without a diet.

Diets themselves don't always work, crash a lot off and you'll certainly crash a lot back on at some stage, for most people a diet has to be for life. If you end up diabetic like I have it ain't any fun, at present I have to take seven pills a day and jab drugs in myself twice a day, no more cakes, choclates, white bread, chippy meals anything like that is a strict treat so rare you wonder why you get hooked on things in the first place. Excess weight, pendulous stomachs are killers lads, no question what so ever

The wife put on a lot of weight with our last child. She got it off slowly but surely. you need to remember that a lot of your excess weight is fluid retention and this comes off first and easiest. Some of you will start off like a house on fire, lose a fair bit of weight the first month or so but not as much the second (although you've done exactly the same exercise and diet wise). Don't be disheartened.
Might be a good idea to see your GP for advice and maybe get a checkup before you start playing squash four times a week. Set gettable targets. A nutritionist, if it's viable for you (not sure what the NHS covers these days), can show you tricks, like eating a bit of chocolate once in a while. The problem is when you hold out and hold out til you can't stand it any more and eat Sayers out of stock in one weekend. Think long term. Get it off slow and keep it off. Look after yourselves.

Height is a big factor. How tall are you Ghost?

My weight go is trends- Football season = right weight, out of football season = overweight.

I play fotball.

I'm 5ft 8 (just) my bmi is like 30.9 so I have a lot of work to do.

Intake today has been couple of slices of toast, a blueberry bar thing, tangerine, a soup/stew thing for lunch and i've just had some wholegrain cereal.

Also walked 20 minutes to work and just spent 40 mins in the gym.

Do you want some chips, ice cream and a burger

Your BMI result is:

36.13

You are in the range that is classified as obese and your health would greatly benefit from a life-long reduction in weight.

IM GOING TO DIE!!
