Weight Loss Motivation

Your BMI result is:

36.13

You are in the range that is classified as obese and your health would greatly benefit from a life-long reduction in weight.

IM GOING TO DIE!!

Yours is more than mine so you're right mate

Do you want some chips, ice cream and a burger

Nah,

Do you know what my vice is though.

Red Wine, Indian Food, Haagen Daaz and Cookies.

I don't drink soft drinks, I very rarely go to McDonalds, I don't often drink beer - maybe once a week I will have a few pints or bottles, depends on the situation.

Just weighed myself and it's almost 24 hrs since I last weighed myself. I am now 14st 5lb's - so I have lost 2lbs.

BMI 30.6

So still Obese, come on you fat ****, need to lose more weight. I get my wife to kick me up the arse and call me names, I'll beat her afterwards, but for now I get the motivation I need.

Also when I go to the gym I try not to venture into the Ego zone, which is for those never been to the gym the gangsters and musclemen hang out here.

Its all about who can lift the biggest weight, and I'm not arsed with all that testosterone crap.

So I basically do some cardio and then jump on the resistance machines, but at the moment my limit is around 30 kgs, maybe 40kgs one some machines.

I suppose it's all about building up the strength and losing the body fat at the same time.

I'm never going to be skinny, so I may as well be toned.

BMI is only a rough indication of fitness so should only be used as a guideline. Mine is 22 yet my body fat percentage is 5%.

I'd recommend getting outside though. Could you not run to/from work? That way you get your workout in and save money on the gym. Motivation will be key to this as it's not something that happens quickly, and more importantly it's not something that will stick unless you keep at it. So you've got to do something you enjoy.

Hate running, hate it with a passion. I don't mind walking, but if I walked to work it would take me about an hour at least, at the moment I get a train (which takes 5 minutes) and then I walk 20 minutes to get there.

We are moving offices soon, so my walk will be closer to 30 minutes.

Also, as soon as the moobs have been converted to Pitt like pecs, I'm going to start swimming again in the morning before work, and then perhaps gym afterwards.

These are things you should avoid like the plague Ghost or don't do ever. Repeatedly weighing yourself is obsessive nonsense, never ever do that, once a month is normally enough, one good crap can weigh 2Ib plus, a nice long pee even more.............always weigh after off loading such matter. Walking is better than running but walk at a brisk pace even power walking, the guy who started the jogging craze dropped dead jogging

Lots of good advice in this thread, so I'll jusrt add / amplify what worked for me - took 50lbs off a few years ago and have kept it off. (Note the older you get the less you can get away with just exercise - the more you need to adjust your intake.)

Key points:
  1. Exercise - as all have said - the more the better. Cardio and weights. For maximum weight loss, the earlier in the day you exercise the greater the benefit. This is especially true for weights.
  2. Drink as much water as you can - seriously.
  3. Regarding eating habits, change them gradually. If you drop all the "bad" things you like, and lose weight, you'll just put it back later - deprivation usually doesn't work long-term. But if you change 1 or 2 things at a time, wait a few weeks until used to them, then do the next 1 or 2 - it will take longer to get your weight down, but be much easier to then keep it down.
  4. As monty said - do NOT weigh yourself more than once or twice a month.
Hope that helps. The key with weight loss is to remember you're not on a "diet" - it's a permanent lifestyle change.

I feel I need to add something here which may help some people to avoid injury.

Your spinal disks are full of fluid.
During the night, your body dehydrates, meaning that first thing in the morning, your disks are relatively dry.

Ask a back surgeon if lifting weights or jogging is good for you first thing in the morning. :)

He'll not be best impressed.

Also, if you starve yourself, your body will go into alert, and will eat away at your muscles before it eats away at the fat.

take it from me lads the only way to lose weright is to excercise more and eat less. My own weight has spiralled since I gave up sea fishing, used to dig my own bait etc, walked miles just to fish some remote spot. I injured my back started putting the weight on now, as I can't do any excercise I just can't get the weight off although I have diabetes, thyroid problems, a dicky ticker, arthritis and rheumatics.......................I enjoyed the beer, the chinese, the eat what you want when at the match but I'm paying for it big time now. DON'T DO WHAT I DID LOSE THAT WEIGHT NOW AND KEEP IT OFF.............................MIKEL, I SUSPECT WE CAN WELCOME YOU TO THE BUGGERED CLUB MATE, BE CONCERNED BE VERY CONCERNED.
