I'm going through chronologically after only really knowing singles. Second listen and theres just melodies for days. The blue album will take some topping like. One of the best albums ever and I actually mean it.

had a pint with him last week
Yeah really down to earth. He even took it well when I described his music as “very radio 2ish”.Decent fella?

I've heard that the "colour" albums for the most part are all good but that they have got some stinkers in there as well.Much prefer this to the blue album (and I like the blue album). And good luck after the next album or two.

I've been raised on pop punk so it shouldn't bother me too much and I've heard all about Rivers' weirdness, painting all of the walls in his house black etc.Yeah it gets a bit weird later. If you forget Weezer are the band who did Blue and Pinkerton it helps. Gets more pop-punky. There are a few good songs/albums though, I seen to remember the Red Album not being too bad.

I think you might be right about Pinkerton being slightly superior to the Blue album. It's like comparing Nevermind to In Utero, the latter is the better album but Nevermind is the hit factory. It had like 5 singles and could've comfortably had another 3 or 4. I think every song on the blue album apart from maybe Holiday and Only in Dreams could be a single. But Pinkerton is just a better Rivers performance both lyrics and vocally. I think it's just personal preference between two absolute 10's for different reasons though. Only another 10ish albums to dig into now.Yea it's one of those things, he probably wrote his best stuff when he was depressed but it's not like you'd want him to be like that just to make the music you like.
Just remembered how good 'Heart Songs' is, on the Red Album. Especially when the last influence comes in.
