If it weren't for that Deafheaven album and soon to be released new Turnstile album, I think this would be top spot for this year so far. Absolutely adore her.

I do think that album is an improvement on her first but my god, does it not fall into the trap of modern pop albums - It's far too long!!

Take off some of the filler (Everybody Dies, Billie Bossa Nova, Not My Responsibility) and it improves it a lot

Annoys me modern artists just fling ever song they've recorded onto an album - The format of the album is an artform by itself

It is probs too long, but I like Billie Bossa Nova.

I think it's at its best with the slower songs on this one. The 5 song run at the end is so good.

Not sure I'd have it over the first one. But I think this album is more personal and the first one is the hit factory. I think comparing them in terms of feel to the Blue album and Pinkerton is a good comparison.

I would definitely agree with that - Ends so strongly

Is the first one a hit factory? Aren't there only 3 songs on it that non album listeners would actually know (Bad Guy, You Should See Me In A Crown, Bury A Friend)

P.S - Billie Eilish dreams that she can write an album like Blue or Pinkerton!

Bad Guy, Bury a Friend, You Should See Me in a Crown, Wish you were Gay, When the Party's over, All the good girls go to hell, illomilo and, of the non singles, I love Strange Addiction.

I'd argue there's 6 songs there that most modern pop fans will know.

And in terms of the Weezer comparison it was purely the change from writing happy pop songs on the Debut to the personal, more introspective songwriting on the follow up.

Found this on YouTube definitely the USA version of Cream great lead guitarist in Joe Walsh - plus vocalist - James fox on drums was immense he founded the band - plus a great bassist in Dale Peters - a trio like Cream - a great sound -

after all of that, the Deafheaven is ultimately quite boring
I quite like it - mainly because I've hated the vocals before and they're quiet pleasant this time

Listening to it through headphones with the lyric book the other night though, it's like a college kid studying creative writing has written them - Just random words plonked together that sound pleasant but mean absolutely nothing!

ahaha, interestingly i just listened to it through headphones to see if i liked it much more and they mention 'naval gazing' a few times, it seems.

Stranded naked on the sandbar, echoed from the stars
Neon sea snake, cemetery roaming under dusk

Doberman visions, you're undressing
Mute and bleary

Shamed red Chopin plays awful sounds from the dresser
Nurses' hands carving in slate, hummingbird gestures

Pretty words on the page - but absolute codswallop

its not hard to see why some people get so riled about them lol

although i'm firmly in the melody/music camp over lyrics with most music.

It's pretty great for this kind of stuff. There is a lot Raga being fused with electronics at the mo. such as this:

Not that far off what you posted once it gets going

That Arushi Jain Boiler Room set is absolutely gorgeous, and completely new to me. Thanks for sharing, I love it.
